SOFEX – XGO

XGO unveiled their latest product at this week’s SOFEX at Ft Bragg. The Pipe is a like a neck gaiter on steroids. Made from a 7.5 ounce, four-way stretch fabric (92% Acclimate Dry Polyester and 8% Spandex) integrating Ag 47 Silver Microbial Protection, it can be worn a variety of ways.

It is important to note that while many XGO products are FR, the Pipe is not. It is however, comfortable and warm. Made in USA!

Just get a Merino Buff, warm, wicking, naturally antimicrobial FR.

  2. Buckaroomedic says:

Concur with Alan. Why would they make something, for the .mil, that is not FR is beyond me.

  3. Buckaroomedic says:

Forgot to mention; especially a neck gaiter. In the event of fire, talk about shrink wrapping . . . .

FR is nice for vehicular use in an actual combat area. FR is also 10X higher. Assess the risk and make a decision, you can’t always have all the tacticoolest gear.

These face wrap/balaclavas have been out on the market for over 15 years, in fleece and stretch. So have Nomex Balaclavas on the racing circuit, and crew served vehicles. But not everybody rides to war. I question the overzealousness of insisting FR is a requirement when you’re Leg or SF and the nearest fuel powered vehicle is a Predator 15,000 feet up.

Marketing another buzz concept means competing for budget dollars, you can either have new uniforms for the Army, OR a new weapon. As the drawdown starts, expect decisions to be justifiable and money based.

  5. Administrator says:

MarkM makes some very good points. The main reason folks aren’t making FR products for sale is $. There aren’t any program dollars for new FR products and guys won’t spend their own bucks on the stuff.
