  1. Matt S says:

Headlamp for general use, handheld for emergency, weapon light when I have my weapon

  2. Brock Bettenhausen says:

All mission dependent! Headlight is great for general tasks, hand held to reach out there and light something up, and weapon for shooting indoors or night.

  3. Dave says:

I prefer headlamps for camping, and hunting, as it keeps my hands free for chores. A specific need for other types of lights are always a consideration, but for tasks around camp a headlamp prevails.

  4. Scott says:

Handheld for tactical pistol shooting in shoot houses.

  5. Anon says:

Headlamp is the best solution for hiking and similar nature sports. It’s important to have your hands free. I also carry a handheld flashlight for exploring but it doesn’t see much action.

  6. Titus says:

Lights for specified purpose. Handheld for EDC, headlamp in bugout/travel-bag, weapon-light on weapon.

  7. Pete says:

It depends. Handheld for an MP night patrol, weapon light for tactical purposes and headlamp for every other…

  8. Travis says:

Weapon mounted for long guns, hand held for pistols and search work, and headlamp for general work when its not going to make my head a target.

  9. George Andrew says:

    ** I PREFER HEADLAMPS **

  10. Mojo says:

Handhelds for EDC. 1 weaponlight for every weapon. 2 is one, 3 is better!

  11. John says:

I prefer headlamps for camping and a handheld for general use.

  12. Lew says:

    Headlamp 90% of the time.

  13. Wayne Rothrock says:

  16. matt says:

    Headlamp. Gotta keep hands free

  17. john says:

Head lamb defiantly for every day tasks, especially here at the COP, where there is limited light most of the day. but on missions a weapon light its better in a tactical situation

  18. steve says:

Headlamp the majority of the time (~90%). Hands free is best for most situations like camping or fixing something on the car or around the house. Handheld for emergencies and weapon light when using a weapon.

  19. Per says:

Headlamp, as a combat technician I need my hands free

  20. JPate says:

Handhelds, much more versatile, can be used with a weapon or on a weapon, but still offer the flexibility needed in a good light.

  21. kyle says:

I prefer compact handhelds like the E2 Series from Surefire, but i have not yet tried a headlamp.

  22. Tommy says:

Ever tried to do CPR with a handheld light under your armpit?
Or just fill in an accident report with a weapon light?
Ever tried to change a car tire in the dark?
Or inspect the fuse-box in your basement in a black out?

Always have a headlight in your EDC.

  23. stu says:

petzl head lamps have never failed me in the field

  24. Nard dog says:

Handheld is my prefered choice, more versatile but it’s always good to have a headlight and weapon light to round out your kit

  25. Neil says:

    A handheld. I have a Surefire E2L that’s been my go-to light for the past 5 years.

  26. shawn says:

It depends. I like the headlamp for sneaking up under a car to install a GPS tracker, but it’s got to be LED and have a red or blue filter. Headlamp is also good for sneaking under the covers with my lady. Love it

  27. JRA says:

Headlamp for non-tactical uses. Weapon light for tactical ones.

  28. seth says:

Headlamp is the way to go for everyday use.

  33. Robert Wickham says:

Almost always headlamp and one of these would be pretty nice to try.

Headlamps are the ticket for me!

  35. Matt says:

Headlamps make vehicle searches much easier.

  36. tommy eversole says:

depends on the application, if in wooded areas hunting prefer headlamp style that way i have both hands free, actual i would prefer headlamp style for just about any enviorement that way i would have both hands free for work or sport.

  37. Al Trombetta says:

I don’t have just one favorite type of light. I carry all 3, I go by the rule 1 is None and 2 is 1 you just never know when one might not work.

  38. Isaac O says:

Headlamps are the best go-to light for me.

Love a good handheld for most purposes

  40. Adrian says:

Headlamp, try stumbling around a COP in the dark when the generator takes a dump and you quickly see why.

  41. Jake says:

    Headlamp

  42. Ian B. says:

Headlamp for reading, which I invariably leave on when I pass out on causes my wife to have conniptions. Little pocket lights to help me find stuff. A nice surefire for when I need something a little more solid.

  43. Joseph Betz says:

    Headlamp 90% of the time.

  44. Kevin says:

    Headlight,please and thankyou

    Headlamp. Especially in this situation.

  46. Bryan Goode says:

I work north of the Arctic Circle so right now we don’t see any sun at all. I use both a headlamp and a handheld. At home it’s mostly the same with the additional tactical lights on most of my firearms. Hands free is the ticket.

All three types of lights have their uses, but my small handheld is most versatile since it’s always with me.

Headlight is a must have for most of the time, weapon lights are great when your trying to find lost stuff in the woods.

I always carry a handheld light at work. use it as a hammer, screw driver, pry bar ….. and oh yeah, a light.

  50. Chris says:

Headlamps are awesome but if I could only pick one style it would be hand-held. And when I need both hands, hand-held becomes mouth-held.
