  1. handheld. Never used a headlamp.

  2. Martin Fegan says:

Headlamp with both white and red light.
Either with red filter or red LEDs.
Most be water resistant, have angle adjust of light, max weight of 100g and be turned on/off when wearing gloves.

  3. Brian says:

headlamp for detail work, but also cant go without a weaponlight

  4. Will says:

I like headlamps but handhelds get used too.

  5. benny bluntz says:

headlamp. I can hold more beer.

  6. Josh says:

If I had to pick ONE, I guess I’d go with a handheld.

Weapon lights are great but only when you need to deploy a light AND a weapon at the same time.
Headlamps have always just felt “weird” to me, IDK why.

  7. Jon says:

I, by regulation, have to fly with a flashlight. This would probably be a little bit better than my lip light on my headset. I prefer headlamps so I can free up my hands to fly.

  8. Marshall says:

    Weapon mounted and handhelds.

  9. Jason Lee says:

Headlamps, baby! Nothing beats hands-free! (Granted, if I played my games in a more permissive environment, I’d probably be very fond of weapon lights.)

  10. OPie says:

For my use (FO) headlamps are the shiznit! I’ve been searching high and low for a CR123-powered White/red light… 😉

  11. Chris W says:

For a tactical situation you need a weapons mounted light. I have to go up and down some pretty unstable stairs searching for fugitives and it is always nice to have one hand for me and one for my gun with a light.

  12. Darrell Kuhne says:

    Handheld

  13. Steven Lichtenberg says:

Headlamp. Hands free and bright enough for most situations

  14. Clark says:

Headlamp. Hands free is full of win.

  15. erick says:

If limited to one – handheld. Otherwise, they each definitely have their uses based on the situation at hand.

  16. DK says:

    Headlamp keeps those hands ready.

  17. Derek says:

I prefer a headlamp due to the versatility it gives. Whether backpacking, working under the car, or searching a house in Baghdad it allows you to keep hands free and still see what you are doing.

  18. Kyle says:

Really like using headlamps since they illuminate what I’m looking at and are hands free.

  19. Nick says:

Have to go with handheld if choosing one.

  20. Tony86 says:

Headlamp = hands free = free movement of your hands.

Versatility is one of the biggest keys in any tactical, camping, etc…situation. You can’t do much without your hands.

  21. Tim mccarty says:

Awesome this just look Awesome most of the time you want to go twords the light you see this coming, you might want to run from the light cuz nothing good is coming your way.

  22. Brian mcquade says:

    Headlamp gets the most use

  23. Dave says:

No light if that was a choice, but headlamp is my pick. Hands free to do what needs to be done.

  24. Joshua Dayment says:

I have to say my headlamp is my most versatile light there is always a way to rig it up to any equipment that I have.

  25. awset7 says:

My headlamp is the most used light in my kit. That and my surefire e2d.

  26. John B says:

My EDC is a Surefire Kroma.

  27. JACOB says:

I think all 3 have their own great applications. Weapon lights on pistols and rifles are my tactical and home defense preference. A good handheld EDC light can also be used for self defense for striking or blinding. But the headlamp is great for everything else and keeps you handsfree especially when camping, biking, hiking and working on stuff at night. My wife loves em for walking the dog and the kids think they are sweet when we are camping at night or sometimes in Fort living room hahaha!

  28. Andy T says:

I’m a fan of smaller weapon lights, but can’t seem to make the scout light work. I also have a surefire p9 as part of my edc kit, and a petzl headlamp in my emergency bag.

  29. Em Gee says:

My downrange rifle light was an issued Surefire M952X, with the dual IR and white LED. When it worked it worked well and the IR helped immensely while running NODs. However, the LED fuzzed out three months in, leaving me with a light that sputtered and still does today. One has to replace the entire “dial” on the front of the light which I cannot afford and the unit doesn’t have any more, go figure.

We were also issued Princeton Tec EOS headlamps which produce a fine cone of red or white light but the on/off button is tiny and hard to reach with bare hands, so while working, you can see the problems with any kind of combat glove. Also, it is too big and unwieldy on the head. To remedy this I have two PETZL Tactikkas. One I keep in my kit, with an issued Surefire Executive, the other I keep in my hooch.

Finally, I have a TLR1 and an M3x which I use for my pistols at home. The SOPMOD block 2 PVS SU-233/238s were not well received as far as I am concerned, especially on a rifle: they just get beat up too much.

    • Em Gee says:

Whoops . . . there is more. On my MICH I ran a Princeton Tec MLPS which was awesome. The articulated arm puts the light where you need it and the three power modes give you the right amount of light when you need it! Out.

  30. Min says:

I use a hand-held the most since when I’m deploying it I only have a pistol in hand. But I’d love a head mounted light, would make shooing off the coyote easier in the dark.

  31. Justin says:

    I am digging headlamps lately.

  32. Aaron says:

    Weapon Mounted

  33. Josh says:

I use my headlamp the most. Either for hunting, camping, or in the field, the headlamp gets the most practical use.

  34. Jeremiah says:

I prefer a small handheld LED, like the Surefire Backup I’ve been carrying for the past 3 years. With a small loop lanyard of paracord I added, I can use it with my handgun, I can clip it to my hat and use it like a headlamp, and it’s easy to carry in a front pocket without getting in the way.

  35. Mike S says:

My favorite light for GP would be a headlamp. Great for night, dark places, stumbling to the latrine, and it makes a great necklace for walking around camp.

  36. Cody says:

My headlamp is by farthe most used piece of kit. Its dark in Afganistan, and like to be hands free.

  37. Ephraim says:

I must say there is a use for all of them but the headlamp is the most used out of all the options. I use it from getting ready in the morning for work to working on weapons to running in low light. Great piece of kit.

  38. Jerry says:

I like head lamps for versatility but weapon mounted lamps have their place in my tool box as well.

  39. nate says:

headlamps while moving. handheld for everything else.

  40. Giovani says:

I’ve used my headlamp more than all the others.

  41. Christopher Marlowe says:

Headlamp… for working on aircraft hands free.

  42. Greg says:

    Either handheld or headlamp

  43. Brent says:

    Headlamps for sure!

  44. David says:

Headlamps are the best. Where you look is where the light is. Just makes sense! Gotta have weapon lights too though. Can’t have too many lights

  45. Swiat34 says:

    I use all three regularly.

  46. Thomas Hagan says:

I tend to use whatever works in the particular situation.. Surefire for weaponlights and handhelds, and the best choice for mounted illum on everything else

  47. Austin says:

Headlamps for sure, but I always carry a back up handheld.

  48. David H says:

I’d have to go for the head lamp.

  49. David Hinson says:

    Headlamp when hunting.

  50. rodney Flowers says:

    Headlamps or handheld
