This is the second of four articles sponsored by Arc’teryx LEAF to educate readers on softshell fabrics used in their garments. In the last article we covered Tweave, a product of Gehring Textiles. What better way to learn about how Arc’teryx combines world class design and materials like Tweave Durastretch and Durastretch LT than to actually wear them? So, this time we are going to give away a set of Sphinx Halfshell and Pant.
The Sphinx Halfshell combines both weights of Tweave Durastretch. It is an armor compatible design that features articulated arms with roll up sleeves that stow for a short-sleeve option. A mandarin collar and bicep pockets top this technical version of a combat shirt off. The Sphinx pant also features softshell construction and an articulated fit for comfort and mobility. These pants are designed to be worn over the top of hiking and mountaineering boots so they incorporate an internal gaiter. The Sphinx pant also includes a knife/tool loop as well as an ingenious reinforced knee construction with an internal pocket for hardshell kneepads which allows you to still use the kneepads’ straps for added stability.
For your chance to win, in the comments section of this posting on SSD, tell us what product you’d like to see Arc’teryx develop. Use your real email address to enter because that is how you will be contacted in case you win. You posting may have to be approved so be patient of it doesn’t show right up. Only one entry per email address. The contest closes at 1200 GMT, 27 April, 2012. At that point, SSD will randomly draw a winner from the entries. We will then pass the name and email address of the winner to the Arc’teryx LEAF team and they will contact the winner and arrange shipment.

I Would like to see a line of decent Hot climate clothing,
tops, bottoms, hats and maybe even boots
keep up the high quality gear!
I would like to see urban clothing with the possibility of carrying concealed weapons. Just wolf color, non tatcicool design, for a grey man :-).
And please! Some nice tacticool patches with you deadbird!
Everybody has really got into multicam and TAN, but what I would really like to see is green line of gear. And also element that in my opinion needs newer version is Harness. Basically your LEAF harness is just your basic climbing harness in natural color. I think it should have PALS webbing for some 1st line gear and also have quick release buckles. It should have anchor loop in rear also(helo doormen safety!) It might sound like another good for everything – good for nothing, but it isn’t. It has been done before(CTOMS). Basically it would be just kick ass battle-belt with leg loops.
I’d like to see an SAS windproof smock style jacket but in a softshell fabric.
Arc’teryx LEAF products are awesome.
I only see an item two years ago but i never bought one of their products because the price too high for me.
Great Job!
Arcteryx LEAF boots!
Expand the hat range! I’d like to see maybe some boonie hats or similar. Also, some lightweight warm-weather type gloves would be cool.
I’d also think it’d be good for Arc’Teryx to look at expanding into other modern camoflage patterns like ATACS.
I’d like to see some Arc’teryx LEAF ingenuity and craftsmanship in a plate carrier and a molle belt/harness. I think clothing in OD or ranger green would be a nice addition.
This is another great product from a company that is just as great.
Arc’teryx LEAF boots for sure!
As stated with some of the previous comments I would like to see Arc’teryx develop some not exactly “low” level stuff but just some everyday gear for people.
Have they considered foot wear yet? Good .boots are always on my list
Smocks and boonie hats. Two staples that seem to be always overlooked.
LEAF Boots.
I’d like to see the B.A.C. Cap in a few more colours (wolf, olive green, etc.) and sleeping bags would be nice 😉
I would like to see a more affordable line of concealment garments for the local street cop. I love the products but the price range is often out of my grasp. I don’t need all of the bells and whistles, just a quality garment that my wife won’t kill me for buying.
Boots for all climates. Some highly flexible polish-able black ones with outstanding padding and ventilation for LEOs, a mid-level flexible high traction with excellent ventilation for desert climates and a set of waterproof, lightweight rugged boots for cold/wet weather. All with reinforced toes to keep that perfect military shape. Use an elastic lace system so the boots can adjust to foot swelling and high activity. Stamp an Eagle, Globe and Anchor on the side of the heel!! Rah!
I’d definitely like to see them start offering more of their product line in ATACS. I would also like to see a “discreet” urban line of products. While they do have items that fall into this category, I’d like to see a much larger line, from clothing an outerwear to boots and day packs, and various accessories that are designed for discreet, non-tactical wear in urban environments. I like the new “Wolf” color, and I’d like to see more colors and color schemes like that.
I would like to see a Fusion Jacket in Wolf Grey. Because it is never as cold in nature as in the concrete jungle an icy and windy day, and even though I like the Fusion in Crocodile it sends out a wee bit high-speed-low-drag vibes when commuting for instance. For those who need to be less visible in their work roles even more so. I’m just a shooter/hunter/outdoorstype that like to use your AWESOME gear for everyday use as well.
An Arc’teryx jacket/top that can turn into a backpack/back to pack clothes up and easy/tactical/covert carry while delayering.
I’d really like to see a LEAF line in ranger green, and more specifically, warm weather, lightweight stuff. I love the soft shell fleece, but that gets about two days of use here in S AZ! I concur with the footwear suggestion as well. How about a line of sage boots that are worth a crap–our options are limited right now. Thanks!
An Arc’teryx jacket/top that can turn into a backpack/bag to pack clothes up and easy/tactical/covert carry while delayering.
Arc’teryx Plate Carrier
As a long time member of USASOC, I would love to be able to use an assault uniform (Top & Bottom) that is on par with the Sphinx Technology but made in a warm mid layer fabric that has an impermeable shell that can withstand the rigors of the cold rain, snow and sleet of Afghanistans austere conditions.
They’ve already proven themselves in the jacket/shirt/pant field, What i’d like to see is Socks, Glove inserts, More Packs, Head wear, Maybe some Gaiters, More belts, More colors, If nothing they should just keep doing what they’re Doing.
A more “civilian” line. I know they have an entire civilian line, but some more products specific to LEAF that are CCW friendly and have off duty wear in mind.
I would
Like to see some medical kit. Aid bags, ifaks, extraction gear
I would love to see a line of “poser” gear, stuff I can put on and hang out around the house, while still looking like a tactical badass.
I think it would be great to be able to upgrade issued gear with arc’teryx tech.
I would like to see a line of clothing for LE use.
I would like to see some Tents with Softshell Outer-Garment for Hunting etc.
More Wolf!
More gear for hot weather climate.
More winter/Arctic camo items.
Arc’teryx Quantum Stealth gear, that would be great 😀
A civilian style Sphinx line that is CCW friendly. Camo draws too much attention when worn amongst the civilians.
I’d like to see a MARS type of system, which covers every type of climate. It would be avalible as either a complete system or individual pieces. I’d also like to see a line of civilian looking clothes with concealed carry/low viz options designed into them. The Raider pants were awesome. Their sizing could be a bit more regular guy friendly adding a short inseam option to their pants would rock
Some hot weather gear gear, more bags and more of the wolf colored items
I would like to see a plate carrier and molle gear.
More civilian-looking gear. As has been mentioned above, CCW-friendly gear would be nice. Something that doesn’t necessarily have velcro for patches and other things. The Wolf color is great for blending into urban environs, sure. But the shells still look like a uniform. Since it would require less manufacturing steps, making the prices a little more approachable would be nice too.
I would like to see a line of 2000 to 3000 ci packs d.eveloped, in wolf of course
A set of light weight rain proof fire resistant gloves.
I also would like to see a new color like Ranger Green!! And I know this is pretty original, but i would also like a lightweight pant and jacket. And while I wish their prices would come down, I love the quality of their products and wouldn’t sacrifice price for quality.
Urban friendly tactical clothing (i.e. not multicam) that doesn’t screem TACTICAL and look at me…I’m carrying a gun.
I’d like to see a fully developed hunting line of outer ware and backpacks from Arcteryx. Especially a pack that could strap a bow.
More low profile, gray man type stuff and hot weather gear for those of us stuck in the desert.
I’d really like ro see more of their products in wolf because that color is just amazing.
More traditional designs (T shirts, polos, etc.) with the same qualilty and ingenuity already integrated into the standard arc’teryx line.
And more Wolf.
Boots and maybe some mid level gear that normal people like myself can afford.
I would like to see some of this in basic black and some of the other urban enviroment blendable colors. Tan, not FDE or Coy. I’m a DUSM and I wear a lot of Tru-Spec 24/7 and 5.11 stuff. The colors that look like just another pair of cargo pants and a shirt are the best. also, some ankle height vibram sole boots with an agressive lug. Comfortable, breathable yet supportive and rugged for the occaisional foot pursuit through the urban jungle of our cities.
