SIG SAUER - Never Settle

Softshell Tech – Sphinx Giveaway

This is the second of four articles sponsored by Arc’teryx LEAF to educate readers on softshell fabrics used in their garments. In the last article we covered Tweave, a product of Gehring Textiles. What better way to learn about how Arc’teryx combines world class design and materials like Tweave Durastretch and Durastretch LT than to actually wear them? So, this time we are going to give away a set of Sphinx Halfshell and Pant.

The Sphinx Halfshell combines both weights of Tweave Durastretch. It is an armor compatible design that features articulated arms with roll up sleeves that stow for a short-sleeve option. A mandarin collar and bicep pockets top this technical version of a combat shirt off. The Sphinx pant also features softshell construction and an articulated fit for comfort and mobility. These pants are designed to be worn over the top of hiking and mountaineering boots so they incorporate an internal gaiter. The Sphinx pant also includes a knife/tool loop as well as an ingenious reinforced knee construction with an internal pocket for hardshell kneepads which allows you to still use the kneepads’ straps for added stability.

For your chance to win, in the comments section of this posting on SSD, tell us what product you’d like to see Arc’teryx develop. Use your real email address to enter because that is how you will be contacted in case you win. You posting may have to be approved so be patient of it doesn’t show right up. Only one entry per email address. The contest closes at 1200 GMT, 27 April, 2012. At that point, SSD will randomly draw a winner from the entries. We will then pass the name and email address of the winner to the Arc’teryx LEAF team and they will contact the winner and arrange shipment.

  2. Matt says:

It would be interesting to see Arc’teryx’s take on a modern combat smock. Their Arro 22 pack would like great in subdued colors other than black as well.

From a plainclothes to kitting up for a raid from a law enforcement perspective….

For example, I find myself sitting in the several different environments over the course of a normal day of surveillance. I may be sitting in my car watching crooks in Compton where I may or may not get out of my car and go from an undercover role to kitting up quickly or to a full blast foot chase; or the same surveillance may take me to Riverside or another environment where it may be more wooded or desert and may have to get out in the bush to lay up on a ridge to keep eyes on and/or for planning a raid for the next day…I know it sounds a bit Hollywood, but it’s actually pretty common duties chasing drug dealers in Southern California.

So, if Arteryx LEAF could design apparel that would accommodate these types of environments and weather conditions, it would be sweet! I’m thinking of jackets, hoodies and shirts that would be reversible multicams to greys in light and medium weights. Styles that would easily fit in. I would also like to see jacket or top that could be low-pro for sitting in the car and fitting in without the weight of body armor. The top would accommodate the ability for the agent to slip in a plate that may be sitting on/between a seat so that he/she can go dynamic quickly and have ballistic protection. I carry a chest rig, soft armor and a swimmer’s cut plate carrier in arms reach to outfit myself accordingly, so if I could slip in a plate, grab my M4 and chest rig quickly, it would be badass and very practical.

    Regards,
    Isaac

I’d love to see Arc’Teryx do a daypack- something like the Eagle MAP, armor compatible, but maybe a little more built out and modular. I think they’d do an awesome job with it.

  7. Tom "Painful" McDermott says:

Although it has already been invented, I’d like to see more durable version of the jacket that has a built-in tent and sleeping bag in it.

The one I saw was ok but seemed to lack practical use out in the field.

    Tnx from Ol Painful…

  8. Michael Wegley says:

I would like to see what Arc’teryx would come up with incorporating their technical fabrics and design into hunting specific gear.

  9. Lee Ertsman says:

    Multicam knee caps

  10. annahvera says:

    A multicam warbelt.

  11. kjjj says:

    A shemag

  12. Rick C says:

I want to see your take on a mid size tactical pack, something like a 511 rush 12 or 24.

  13. Victor says:

Arc’Teryx footwear, perhaps team up with Meindl or Lundhags?

  14. Scott Kinney says:

I would like to see a combat shirt and pants that are light weight and 100% waterproof for maritime applications

  15. BiGGieNick says:

I would be interested in seeing some low-pro bags (shoulder, sling backpacks) for carrying concealed off body. It would be great if it looked like normal outdoor gear production line models.

  16. steve says:

anything in foliage green – thanks

  17. Iraq Ninja says:

Arc’Teryx combat smock. Right now, Vertx has what is probably the best out there…

  18. DeltaNate says:

Everything that Arc’Teryx is just BA. A boot line would be cool. Maybe team up with OTB Boots. They can make one hell of a pair if boots.

  19. Brian says:

Any product in foliage green, OD green, would be awesome – including some of their mainstream consumer gear – offered in milspec styles and colors –

  20. Tonto says:

Would like to see Arc Teryx take on the flight suit to modernize. Or combine the hardy versions of the combat pants with the trekking and bushcraft needs. And to whoever said make everything they currently make in OD, definitely that!

  21. Steve says:

I would like to see ArcTeryx make a quality everyday backpack. One that you can bring to school, on a hike, around town, or to work.
On top of that.. it has to be special and different from the pack.
I would like to have a special concealed compartment that is easily reachable and efficient to carry a handgun in.
To make it look like a normal backpack, you could design it to have a waist strap with a compartment.. (lots of backpack have this)
    Heres an example:
