Softshell Tech – Drac Giveaway

In this final installment of our series on Arc’teryx LEAF’s softshell tech, we are giving one lucky reader a chance to win a set of Drac Jacket and Pant manufactured from Burly Double Weave.

The Drac Jacket is a welcome addition to the LEAF line. It features pit zips and two bicep pockets with Velcro fields for IFF as well as two zippered hand warmer pockets mounted low on the jacket in the traditional fashion. Additionally, the cuffs incorporate die-cut laminated Velcro adjusters.

Burly Double Weave is made for cold weather so you’re getting wind and water resistance along with a generous 4-way stretch. The Drac jacket combines combat jacket styling with a generous cut. The same can be said of the pant. If you’re on the edge between sizes, go down rather than up.

The Drac Pant features an interesting combination of styling and features. It’s as if the Combat Pant and Sphinx Pant had a baby. All of the features of the Sphinx with the stretchy goodness of Burly Double Weave.

You get:
-Two slash hand pockets
-Two rear pockets with angled access
-Two tool pockets with Cordura reinforcement
-Two calf pockets with flaps
-Two cargo pockets with flaps that fit standard rifle magazines and are easy to access from a seated position
-Built-in gaiters
-Ingenious webbing covered kneepad pockets with access points for straps

Both the Drac Jacket and Pant are available in Crocodile as well as Wolf sizes Small – XXLarge.

At the request of Arc’teryx, this giveaway is restricted to MIL/LEO. For your chance to win, in the comments section of this posting on SSD, tell us how you learned about Arc’teryx LEAF and how long you’ve known about the LEAF program. Use your real email address to enter because that is how you will be contacted in case you win. You may use a civilian email address to enter but official email addresses are preferred. The winning email address is the only one that will be shared and that is with Arc’teryx to arrange for your prize. If you use a civilian email address it will certainly delay your prize due to verification and if you cannot be satisfactorily verified we will choose another winner. Your posting may have to be approved so be patient of it doesn’t show right up. Only one entry per person. The contest closes at 0001 GMT, 2 June, 2012. At that point, SSD will randomly draw a winner from the entries. We will then pass the name and email address of the winner to the Arc’teryx LEAF team and they will contact the winner and arrange shipment.

I saw some “other” guys wearing it back 07-08 in the mountains of Afghanistan. I was amazed at how well it held up while our ECWCS stuff was falling apart in the harsh terrain. Tried to buy the (then new) combat jacket off of one of them with no luck…wanted one ever since.

Saw the LEAF line for the first time in Afghanistan in 07-08 when some of the “other” guys were wearing them. Our ECWCS stuff was shredding in the harsh terrain, and I was amazed at the durability. I tried to buy a (then new) combat jacket off of one of them with no luck?..wanted one ever since.

  3. Kurt says:

I heard about LEAF from some of my co workers who were wearing it.

  4. Larry L. says:

While running an undercover narc unit, from an officer who just returned from reserve deployment in Iraq.

  5. Chad says:

I first learned about Arcteryx while on deployment. The SEALs team had the logo painted on the door of their compound. Naturally I had to do some research. That was 2 years ago.

  6. Alec Altoft says:

I first learned about Arcteryx LEAF in Afghanistan when I bought an Aplha jacket through the Canadian military. I was so impressed that now I refuse to buy anything else but Arcteryx for outerwear!
    Cheers,
    Alec

  7. Alec Altoft says:

I forgot to mention it was 2009 :p *edit*

  8. SF says:

learned about LEAF from a few of my buddies probably around 2010… been wanting to get some of their stuff for a while, but they come with a steep price tag!

  9. Flapjack says:

I learned about the LEAF gear on the range one cold day when I saw some folks had better gear than I did. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to get an Alpha Jacket and some Knee Caps issued. I Love the gear and the way the company took care of me the one time I had a problem.

  10. Paul says:

I learned about Arc’teryx from being issued a set of Arc’teryx Knee-pads. I researched their brand name and learned about their outstanding line of products.

  11. Thomas Crookston says:

I learned about LEAF when I was searching for product pages on facebook. I searched for Arc´teryx products and found that they had a Military and Law Enforcement line of clothing and gear. I got on there Facebook feeds and keep in formed ever since. Only after a week of watching the comments I saw that during the SLC outdoor retailer´s conference that there was a fundraiser BBQ for the a wound warrior fund (I don´t think it was the wounded warrior fund, but a vet was in need of some financial assistance). So I showed up and talked to a bunch of cool people. There was one cool guy that was there from LEAF and I was impressed to with his effort in testing gear, improving gear, making gear lighter and over all trying to make a difference for the our elite down range. Thank you.

  12. Michael Hardaway says:

I learned about Arcteryx LEAF via the Internet and LEO/MIL forums. I’ve got the Alpha Jacket and a few other items. Great stuff!!

  13. Stabby McStabbearson says:

I first learned about Arc’Teryx’s LEAF program back in 2005 as I was researching the new pack we were being issued in the Marine Corps. I read that the design was by Arc’Teryx, based on the Bora 95. Discovered their LEAF and civilian lines about the same time. I thought the pack was a great improvement over the MOLLE packs.

So, I guess it’s been about 7 years that I’ve been a fan of Arc’Teryx. Of course, on enlisted military pay I can’t afford much of their gear, but I’ve managed to scrimp and save for a few key pieces over the past several years.

  14. Scott says:

Long time user or Arcteryx gear for outdoor adventures but first became aware of the LEAF line through my command.

  15. Frank Aquino says:

I first saw the LEAF stuff when my team was looking to switch to a Gore-Tex duty jacket. I had to build the business case and looked a half a dozen options. Luckily we are close to the LEAF HQ and I saw their Alpha jacket (no Velcro patches at the time). Arcteryx won out hands down and we’ve been using their stuff ever since. I just need to build the business case now to switch to the Talos in Wolf!

  16. Craig says:

First learnt about Arcteryx when working with CSOR and they were all warm while I was freezing my *ss off.

  17. Will W. says:

I first bought an Arc’Teryx soft shell at REI. I was so impressed that I purchased an alpha jacket for use while on duty as well. Works great under our department issued outer vests. The quality, and fit are second to none.

    Semper Fi,

  18. sjl777 says:

First learned about LEAF at light fighter.net. A coworker swears by Arcteryx products. I have the knee caps which are awesome.

  19. Jeremy says:

Signed up for the LEAF program via the Arc’Teryx website. Sadly, the only thing I’ve been able to afford so far is a pair of the BAC caps and one of their civilian packs. All are in heavy rotation, and live up to their reputation for quality. Saving my pennies now for the Alpha jacket.

  20. Matt says:

I learned of Arc’Teryx LEAF through LF.net in 2009. I have used some of the packs at work, but have always wanted to try one of the jackets.

  21. Kramer says:

First heard about LEAF a couple months ago when I started following Soldier Systems!

  22. erick says:

Found out about LEAF through two friends in the CF about 4yrs ago (I think)
Gotten a few things so far, but most prices are out of my reach as a JNCO.
However I must say the gear I do have is nigh on Bombproof. Just gonna have to wait til I get a slot at “another” unit to get me some of the finest in dirty bird apparel.

  27. Bob M says:

I learned about Arc’teryx LEAF back in 2010 when I asked some contractors about the dope jackets they were wearing while visiting a FOB for some R&R.

  29. Yau says:

  30. Kyle says:

    on soldier systems

  31. Luke says:

I first learned of it through SSD. I saw a jeep out my local IDPA match with a Arc’tery sticker on it. Would have never of know what it was if I didn’t see it here first. Wish I could afford their clothing.. Fingers Crossed

  32. Shayne says:

I learned about the LEAF line through squadmates and from Arc’teryx themselves as they cover us in their “VPD Blue”.

  33. Jeff says:

I’ve always been a connoisseur of fine gear, but refuse to pay retail for just about anything – I’m all about pro deals and military discounts. Living in the Northwest, I was familiar with Arc’teryx and their phenomenal reputation for quality outerwear. A few years ago (circa 2010), I was in the market for a hard shell and decided to see if they offered a military discount. That’s when the rep gave me the skinny on their LEAF program. I haven’t been able to take advantage of the program as much as I’d like, but the few Arc’teryx articles I do own are among my favorites and get frequent use on duty and at play!

  34. BH says:

I learned of the LEAF program through the command to which I am still assigned, and have used it for a number of years now (since at least 2009) for kit that has been a key part of my loadout for Afghanistan and Iraq and other vacation hot spots. Currently using the kit on another of those vacations.

  35. Ivan says:

I learned about Arc’teryx LEAF from some other agents in a joint operation SW about a year and a half ago. I have heard of it since then as I started following SSD.

  36. Thomas says:

Got a tip from a friend of mine who works in a sport shop when looking for skiing gear maybe 4 years ago. Used some of it on RNoAF SERE course.

  37. Isaac Fiesta says:

I learned of Arcteryx LEAF seeing their apparel being used by personnel in the military Special Operations community, years back. Then I saw the brand being sported by guys in the military and the law enforcement training industry. I’ve since purchased a couple pieces of apparel and really believe the hype! Very awesome quality functional stuff!

  38. kristof says:

I read about the LEAF line on militarymorons.com, knowing the civilian line for quite some time and being a fan of its innovative designs, i got to like the LEAF line quick.

  39. T says:

Tried some of their stuff through the prodeal in ’11 after seeing instructors demo it during training in AK. I take the Atom LT jacket everywhere now. Recently purchased a civilian softshell too as the build quality is great.

  43. Dan says:

Became aware of the LEAF program about 3 years ago after seeing the Alpha jacket. Being as cheap as any cop, I immediately found my way to the program. Thank you.

I learned abour LEAF from Military Morons after seeing some forum posts about it.

I heard about Arc’teryx LEAF several years ago while working as a liaison officer for a MAJCOM.

  48. F says:

We were issued some basic LEAF gear when I got to Afghanistan, and it was fantastic. I immediately decided that I needed more of it, so I talked to our logistics guys and learned about the website. My credit card has hurt ever since, though due to the number of orders, not the awesome gov pricing!

  49. River Raider says:

I first learned about Arc’teryx after running into a buddy who was using their gear. I found about LEAF after contacting Arc’teryx and I have been using it ever since. Amazing products that hold up to the worst I can throw at them and a company that never disappoints. Keep up the great work guys!

  50. Ryan says:

I first learned about Arcteryx in 2003 assisting with the Marine Corps’ ILBE project. I got my first LEAF product 4 years ago thru SWAT.
