Mystery Ranch SATL Gets A Makeover

The Mystery Ranch SATL –the standard-issue Assault pack for SOCOM – just got a makeover. At SOFIC we got a chance to check out a few of the updates.

It now features the removable BVS bolsters for increased stability over armor and enhanced load-carrying capability by improving the framing system (stiffer, stronger).

Finally, they added a more comfortable Re-Direct Waistbelt that helps transfer weight to the hips and snugs up easier under armor and gear.

The changes make the SATL into their best carrying Assault pack yet. It’s available in Coyote, MultiCam and AOR (for NSW use only) with NSNs for each.

AOR Mystery Ranch pack on the airsoft field in 3, 2…

In all seriousness, the upgrades in the belt and frame look to have made an already fantastic pack even better. Everyone knows that Mystery Ranch makes a fantastic pack, but it’s nice to see them putting the extra work into working out the mechanical bugs that many companies wouldn’t think of or bother with instead of resting on their laurels.

As soon as I read AOR (NSW only), all that came to mind was airsofties buying tons of the stuff. Haha!

Rock on to the team at the Ranch. You are all doing great things!

I hope they made the pack lighter than the last -mystery ranch packs are heavy

    • You are certain right about the weight of this pack. I would enjoy I lighter one.

You don’t hear many complain about this pack’s ability to carry heavy, awkward loads or its durability under extreme conditions.

The ability to do both those and still be under 6 lbs is rather remarkable to me.

    • bob says:

Yes they are heavy, but they can carry enormous loads compared to their weight. Plus they are durable as hell. There is a trade-off between load-bearing, durability, and weight. If folks want to go ultralight, there are other packs for that. 😉

  3. straps says:

Badly needs a lumbar bolster for the void beneath the plates that this pack is designed to be worn with so the pelvis can bear some weight. Absent this, takes no more weight off the shoulders–that are already bearing armor and ki– than an ALICE pack. This is not sharpshooting, this is a suggestion for putting gear put there that fulfills its intended purpose.

And yeah, Airsofters will be rocking as many of these packs as real deal Operators, considering that an AOR pack will pull about $2K on the auction site…

Why does this pack have a different lid than all the other packs? Is there an option to get one with the day pack lid instead?

  5. steave says:

They are very heavy packs be good if mystery ranch offered somthing a bit lighter. Their 3 day zip is bullshit heavy for its capacity.
Durability is good but packs dont need to last years just a deployment, and if they survive that they get traded in for somthing newer next time round.

    • Matt says:

Hmm, some aree heavy – but SATL isn’t actually all that heavy for its capacity – its 2,2 kg with 60 liters capacity. Not bad I say.

Trizips – 3DAP is actually about 330 grams heavier that Kifaru X-Ray, while having about 3,5 liters greater capacity. And I don’t hear claims about Kifaru being heavy.

Dana never jumped on the UL wagon for a reason, and the same reason makes military version of 3DAP heavy. http://www.carryology.com/2012/09/26/interview-dana-gleason/

You want lighter Trizip? Go for civilian SweetPea – its 700 grams lighter.

Brilliant! You should start a pack company.
