Affordable is relative. I don’t think the camo job on the cover is worth triple the price over the goal zero package at Costco.

or even Instapark 10 Watt Solar Panel I got on amazon for $65 that puts out twice the power.

It this was waterproof or unbreakable flexible, maybe…. but it’s not.

The LBX Solar kit is Waterproof, unbreakable and flexible. Just got mine last week and already took it to Yosemite for a long weekend Climb and am super impressed!

I purchased the Goal Zero special at Costco during the holidays and it already broke falling out of my truck by accident. The LBX kit actually charges faster then the 10W Goal zero panel and holds a lot more battery power since it generates the same Amps.

Its a fraction of the weight and was able to stick it in my 5.11 Cargo pocket on my hikes. It an awesome lightweight rugged set up that you wont know is on you until you need it. I say give it a try i feel it was money well spent.

@ Alan would you recommend this for everyday outdoorsman?

I saw this technology displayed by MD at SHOT, and it was featherweight compared to the others in the market that have large clunky hard foldable panels. They claimed that you could shoot a bullet through the solar and it would still run. i had to see for myself and did at the shoot demo they did. INCREDIBLE! i couldn’t believe my eyes! they shot .45, 9mm, and .556 rounds through the panel and it was still lighting the LED light and blowing the fan it was running. I’d like to see Goal Zero do that! They also displayed it running dipped in a tank of water. Very cool product.

Seeing is definitely believing and i like what i saw. I think i’ll save up and get one.

Gilly, Yes i highly recommend for anyone who wants a solar kit that actually works and isnt so heavy or delicate that you will actually use it. Go get one!

I heard about it getting shot with a bullet and still working but havent been brave enough to try it on mine. I’m sure it will hold up though, this thing is tough. Ill keep mine without the holes.

Goal Zero all the way, that’s a serious price tag when all things considered it’s made in China especially LBX being all imported non USA made. I’ll pass

    • DS says:

check your facts. Maddox Defense products are BERRY compliant and all are made in the USA and are on the military’s TLS. I believe that Goal Zero is made in China. They use simple and inexpensive commercial (Non-military) components with high marketability for the average person and camper.
