SIG SAUER - Never Settle

A Picture Says A Thousand Words

    4 years…..

    Jesus wept.

  2. Max says:

The best camo in that photo wasn’t even entered in the camo improvement competition. Ghillie suits FTW!

  3. BradKAF308 says:

It baffels me that someone didn’t stop that camo from being adopted. Wasn’t a subordinate called in to show how it actually works? Not green, not brown, not khaki. In what forest does it work? Where is the report from the field tests? There were no field tests?

  4. Warthog35f says:

I tuanfully ditched all of that crap after getting out, I kept one for memorabilia and that was it. I hunt in Multicam and have for the last five years.

  5. We had an American exchange officer working on the FAC course with us. They only comment about UCP was the only thing I will blend in with is a pile of UCP in the factory.

    • BradKAF308 says:

That’s not totally true I saw a wierd plant in somebodies garden and it was like that grey. Boy did it stand out.

    • Terry says:

We always figured it would blend in at a dolomite crushing plant.

    • Sal says:

That’s not totally true; it also blends well with couches. 🙂

    • FinnsPoint says:

Particularly effective on remf’s . All the idiots blend in together.

  6. AGL Bob says:

I was at Ft. Jackson watching my niece’s basic graduation and was struck by how much the troops stuck out on the parade ground. Last time I was there I was graduating wearing class A’s and we probably blended in better. So that must be the reasoning behind UCP. You can’t have ceremonies when you can’t see the soldiers clearly.

  7. Gary says:

I was in Utah a few years ago, and the little scrub brush out there(not sure what they are, some type of junipers maybe) is pretty much the same color as the UCP, ACU. That is really the only thing I have saw it blend with

  8. Black6ID says:

Who is responsible for designing UCP?

    • Greg says:

By Desk jockey’s who though that all wars by the year 2000 would be fought in urban places.

      • Terry says:

Yeah, but it even sticks out in urban environments.

        • Greg says:

Color shades used in UCP was “Urban gray 501”, “Desert tan 500” and “Foliage green 502”.

501 – Most buildings were the same color as the dirt being walked on. 501 was a pointless color to start with.

500 – An ok shade. Sad truth was that there was very too little of it to be effective in a desert enviroment.

502 – Nowhere near good enough to be in a woodland or urban enviroment.

      • Gregor says:

        or in space ships…

        • Greg says:

Places where UCP is 90-95% effective.

          Gravel Pits.

          Driveways/Sidewalks.

          Grandmothers couches.

  9. Vince says:

Wow, that rifle sure does stick out in the picture…

  10. x says:

UCP looks kind of blue in this picture

  11. majrod says:

ACU has failed as a universal camo pattern. SSD is arguably the best industry blog when it comes to military gear out there.

I can understand you guys being annoyed at the Army for not announcing the next patterns already but this sort of picture and caption doesn’t make your case or seems very professional.

Instead of picking the worst picture you could find how about any of the below that were taken in Afghanistan where the fight actually is and not some woodland training area stateside.

Maybe you’re going for the laugh but you came across as kicking someone that is down, comatose and bleeding out. You can do much better.

    • SSD says:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

      • SteveB says:

        That’s a good-un!

      • majrod says:

SSD – problem is I listed four pictures. 2+2=4 Maybe you’re talking about two wrong clocks?

You’re being just as bad as the Army on ACU. Admit a bad decision and move on vs. defend the indefensible.

The next article on the camo industry and the impact of the slow new camo announcement were on target. SSD does an awesome job but it’s not infallible.

        • Go figure says:

There are also plenty of areas where UCP doesn’t work. Just like lots of other camo patterns. Nothing will be the best solution, but I would think we ALL agree that UCP was not and will never be the best solution for us.

The real issue here to me is that UCP was NEVER field tested and yet just like lots of other dumb decisions, the Army stuck by it come hell or high water to try and dumb us all down into thinking it was acceptable. The past round of testing was great and shows me that someone gives a damn, it’s just unfortunate that the ultimate decision is being delayed by the people that screw everything up for us in the end.

    • ST Doc says:

If the Army had wanted to blend in with those environments, Bulldog Mirage would have been better.

      • Stefan S says:

I know Jason. Bulldog was nixed far too early. Sad. Still wear Mirage downrange.

      • JBAR says:

Got a boonie cover a few years ago ti try out. I like it. The craftmanship is outstanding. They had a fire. I am not sure if that was a factor .

    • AGL Bob says:

Yes, it blends in with rocks.

    • BradKAF308 says:

In Afghan everyone gets dirty so the dirt was the cam, not the uniform. This pic is very unfavourable but I would say it’s a rather average eastern north American, European enviroment.

  12. reverend says:

    Multi-cam, or MarPat… Just saying.

    • Greg says:

Multicam is just a placeholder camo.

MARPAT is a big No no! Less we anger the Jarhead leadership.

Whatever the Army chose has to be just as good, or better than both! Choose wisely my friends.

  13. Stefan S says:

Make sure you make it so those future female Rangers look mean in it! LMFAO!

  14. Tierlieb says:

Interestingly, everyone seems to take something else from that picture. For me it was “hey, Multicam sucks in that environment, too”.

  15. We are all strill trying to work out why us Brits spent so much money on MTP when its just Multicam that has been over washed and faded 🙁
