Notch Gear

I found out about Notch Gear from the folks at King’s Arsenal. When I first looked at the hat design it didn’t click right away. Not until I saw the photo below. And then it all made sense.

If you have a rolled bill on your cap, you may have to tip back on your head if you are wearing glasses of any sort. But not anymore. These guys came up with an innovative solution; the notch. Or, more specifically, soft, durable notch inserts that accommodate your eyewear.

They already offer a Kryptek Highlander cap and they are getting ready to introduce a Typhon version. They will giving one of these away once they hit 1,000 ‘Likes’ on Facebook. Check their page if you are interested.

I have been meaning to pick one up.

  2. Nate Hale says:

I’ve wanted to buy one, but just hate the giant “branding” on the front. I’m fine with them putting Notch on it, but not huge puffy letters on the front.

    • Greg says:

The lettering looks to be embroidery, you could always cut it and pull it thread by thread off with tweezers.

I agree with the sentiment though, down with huge branding!

    • TMosi says:

i promise the lettering is not nearly as “giant” as you think. i own the krypyek, all black, and white adj. cap and none are very noticable. Not to mention on most of them the lettering is color matched to the cap which makes it ALOT less noticable. Hope i could help. It is a VERY confortable hat. If you havent tried one on i suggest you do.

First thing I thought of was “Opti-Grab” and we know how that turned out…

  4. jeff b says:

Unfortunately you told us about the giveaway a few hours to late.

    • SSD says:

That sucks. When I wrote the article they were still a ways off.

    • mike says:

Are you sure they didn’t pick up a few hundred likes between 17:00 and 19:21 when you post? SSD kinda has that effect on traffic and contests, you know.

  5. fmfbest says:

Opti- grab that was a good one.

  6. straps says:

If they’re serious about a shooter hat they need to re-think that “Coneheads” profile and get rid of the headache rivet up top.

  7. HWI says:

They need to get rid of the rivet on top. I would get one if it was usable with with my ear pro.

  8. Freeman says:

The fact that Kryptek is all over these commercial products is a pretty good sign to me that it lost the Army vote…

    • Reseremb says:

Don’t know who won/lost the Army competition… but Multicam was commercially available a long time before military contracts.

      • Freeman says:

Not true… the early version of Multicam (Scorpion) was tested alongside UCP, which won for some reason…

  9. WWT says:

I have one of these and it is honestly the best hat I have ever purchased. I was skeptical at first even knocking the cap until I got my hands on one. People complaining about the logo on the front are the same people putting 4″ morale patches on front. “Headache rivet”? If you are dumb enough to hit your head on it you deserve a headache. I forgot you needed it to be velcro for your IR patch since you go down range so much…

    • B says:

Bro do you even wear earpro?

      • Sneaky Nerd says:

Na bro, he is too “Operator” for that.

        • Haji says:

The Headache Button will come off with a pair of pliers, but a well thought out hat designed for shooting wouldn’t have it in the first place. I could tolerate the big branding, but I’m not sure I want to. I do wanna try it on and see if the front of the cap is as rigid as it appears in the photos. I’ve already got a couple caps with that profile that I don’t like. Maybe I’ll just cut the bills on those and see how it works, especially if these are gonna be $25 (or more) like the KA hats on their site.

          • Notch1 says:

Haji and others, thanks for the feedback on our product. We definitely intend to add more styles in the future without the button on top and operator patches on the front (with and without the logo). We’re being flooded with requests for those although the one pictured above is almost sold out and selling very well too. We truly appreciate the feedback and want to give our customers what they want. I’m a former US Marine and our patent-pending product is protected so I hope you guys can respect that. Haji, I read your profile and I need to talk with you. Please email me at info@notchgear.com

      • WWT says:

Bro do you even put the band behind the rivet? Common sense is not too common I see.

        • matty says:

Why would you put your ear pro at a weird angle on your noodle to skip around the rivet when the rivet shouldn’t even be there in the first place.

          • kobrabubbles says:

^+1 The rivet button on caps is such an old design, it’s no longer needed. I hated it even before i started shooting and wearing ear pros.

  10. Steve 68W Nc says:

+1 on the “puffy logo”, if they tone that shit down I’d be in. Reminds me of the way Arc’teryx gets out of control with their logo sometimes.

    • mike says:

Arc’teryx only gets “out of control” on their civilian hiking/skiing/climbing crowd’s items and even then only when that’s the point. I have a shirt where the entire side is the Archeopteryx skeleton, but that’s why I bought it. There are other shirts that are like bright red with the company logo, but again those are “I’m cool because I can afford Arc’teryx” braggart pieces. There’s nothing in the LEAF line that is remotely loud.

  11. Jordan says:

hat? what hat? all I see are two hot looking dudes..

  12. Mike B. says:

This is a kick ass hat company founded by a Former Marine. Just wore mine for the first time today, 8 hours at the range with eye and ear pro. This hat kicks ass. It is the most comfortable hat that I have ever worn.
