download

Fighter Design has announced a new version of their patented Magnetic Retrofit Kit designed for use with most popular tactical pant brands. The Magnetic Retrofit Kit for Tactical Pants comes in a 5-set pack, which will convert both cargo pockets and front flashlight pockets to magnetic closures, largely eliminating noise in addition to protecting the fasteners and preventing wear. Available in Black and Coyote Tan.

Cool concept. I wonder how they hold up to machine was and dry cycles?Usually what protects the magnet from the elements is plastic and that melts after after a few cleaning cycles. This causes rust to develop and ruin the cloth. I hope they were more clever than other companies.

Will these effect my magnetic compass ?

Great question about the laundry. My name is Adam Slank and I’m the inventor of M.R.K. The Magnetic Retrofit Kits are tough enough to remain attached during the wash and dryer cycles, even at full heat. They will protect your hook/loop from wear and prevent the hook side of closures from chewing up your Underarmor.

Also, great question about the magnetic field affecting a compass: These will affect a magnetic compass, but they will not affect your electronics or credit cards. The Magnetic Retrofit Kits are considered a uniform enhancement piece, and they are quickly removable for navigation and EOD concerns.

Can you tell (if it’s not a secret), what kind of magnetic material is in there? Rare-earth metal, ferrous powder and rubber mix or something else?

      • Fighter says:

Bushman, good question. The magnets we use are “rare-earth” (NiFb), the strongest type of magnet. We also use the highest grade of rare-earth magnet available, called N52 grade. The higher the grade, the stronger the magnet.

The construction is a very interesting process, we sonic weld the magnets inside genuine Velcro brand product, using a sonic welder. This makes them very durable and thin.

We understand that most people just need to try the product for themselves before forming an opinion. That’s why we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all products. Buy, try, and decide if it’s for you. Return them if you don’t love using them. No pressure, no risk.

        Thanks for the questions, Adam

Thank you for reply. Actually, I’m interested because I’ve experimented with coin-type magnets as button replacement by myself.
In my experiments, I’ve found a couple of interesting details. For example, it’s not really necessary to use highest power magnets, if there are even thin metal “magnet field conductors” – just like in magnetic locks for furniture doors (even if it’s covered with fabric or thin plastic).
Thin metal conductor (I’ve used some kind of wide staples made of packing steel tape) also dramatically reduces the interference with navigation devices by concentrating the magnetic field.
Another thing I’ve discovered is that usage of synthetic velvet surface helps to achieve the same anti-sliding properties even with lower grade magnets.

EOD guys will be all over these.

IMHO… both are terrible, I’ll keep my buttons any day (on pants and shirt pockets).

    Dear Army, authorize this!

    Adam,

Any plans to make these in a form factor that would cover a 5-6 inch strip of Velcro, such as some manufacturers use on cargo pockets?
