Nike to Introduce SFB2

According to a photo posted by Airsoft Outlet Northwest, which is right down the road from the Nike campus, Nike will be introducing the SFB2 on 31 January.

I can see a few differences from the current SFB which has been around since 2008. For instance, the sole has been changed from the FREE-style sole. Additionally, the upper loses the classic Jungle Boot styling and forgoes the metal lace holes for fabric lace barrels on the top of the foot.

Didn’t know Nike was making anything like this. Anybody here have any experience with them? Durability as a field boot?

    • SSD says:

The SFB is basically a jungle boot upper on a Nike Free sole. Ok as a garrison boot, very comfy. Not really durable enough for field duty.

  2. Adam says:

I use them for both garrison and patrol as a police officer civilian side. I like them but the forefoot did wear down quickly. Hopefully they’ll have sizes in wide this time too as the toe box was rather narrow until the leather broke in.

Nike’s got them up on their online site if you want a better look:

The SFB1 was an ok office boot for me, I know plenty of dudes that wore them downrange but they didn’t last more than three months of heavy use. I’m definitely intrigued by the new Nikes, they look much more durable and comfortable.

  5. mike says:

These were never meant as foot armor, the focus is on comfort. I’ve had customers buy three pair to take on deployment because they knew they would wear through them but they were paid well enough, and they cared more about comfort, that they didn’t mind having to pack a few extra.

I’ve had to give up on Nike as a brand almost completely since they make next to nothing in a wide size.

    • LCSO264 says:

I know this is less than convenient, but if you go to Nike ID and design your own shoe, you can get Nikes in wide sizes. I stated doing this because basically all of the general release shoes only come in a$$ h@le colors/color patterns anymore. I don’t know, maybe I’m just getting too old to know what is “cool,” but bright neon/flourescent colored shoes are not my thing… specifically, Nike Free shoes are what I’m referring to, they are super comfortable, so at Nike ID I (you) can make them in more “traditional” colors.

That said, I don’t know if you can do the boots that way, I haven’t checke.

When is Nike going to release a boot that is actually AUTHORIZED for wear? I hear it time and time again, “But EVERYBODY is wearing them!”. I will agree that their SF boots are lightweight and comfortable, but they’re far from durable. Until they produce something made out of cattle leather instead of man-made stuff, I’ll continue to use the heck out of my Bellevilles and Rockys for duty wear.

    • SSD says:

Why aren’t they authorized for wear? There isn’t a list.

      • Joe says:

I believe the regulation specifies real leather…. but no one seems to enforce that part. Check AR60-1

      • moped1967 says:

Theres an Alaract and a “leaders meetings notes” from SMA Preston out there somewhere from like 2006-07 that states what constitutes “authorized”. NOT 670-1. As many MAY or MAY NOT know, 670-1 hasn’t been updated since like Feb 2006, Pre- ACUs/ UCP… so half of the FM is pretty much null and void outside of personal grooming standards. If you want to tell someone to go “by the book”, better pull out your BDUs. Otherwise tell congress and the Chief of Staff to approve an update…(good luck on that.). Back on point with the Alaract, Its very often overlooked and few enforce it. It states that it has to be made out of: cowhide leather, X oz leather, tan soles, no imitation leather, ect ect. Which basically only leaves the crap basic issue boots. I’ve only meet a few hard ass 1SG, SGMs that enforce it, half of which were the “pot calling the kettle black” types that were also wearing desert jump boots. Cap Toe boots such as jump boots are also prohibited in Alaract. As far as I and most other NCOs and Officers are concerned, its free game as long as it doesn’t distract from the general appearance of a soldier until a definitive, up-to-date, set in stone edition of 670-1 is published. which again, will prob be 10-15 years from now with the amount of current and upcoming uniform changes.

        • Mike D says:

Yes, the ALARACT message is exactly what I was referring to. The NCOES Schools will enforce it, and you’re pretty much SOL if you purchase a nice new pair of the Nike Boots for the school (like I was). I do agree that 670-1 is extremely overdue for a revision, but the Army insists that you MUST follow both the book and those pesky, often hard to find messages.

Maybe I’m the minority here; the tan suede boots have been perfectly fine for me with regards to durability. Between garrison, oconus trips, and abn ops I’m perfectly happy with them – zero issues (I’m an 11B). I like the suede ones enough that I’ll probably buy a few sets in case the new version sucks.. On the other side of the spectrum, the black leather versions of the boots have been terrible. The soles delaminate and peel apart from the toe box after about 3-4 months of daily LE use.

  9. mblakely says:

I have the mids, this boot is for those who want a LIGHTWEIGHT boot. I like the Nike Free Sole and find the weight savings of this boot to trump any durability issues. http://uspatriottactical.com/nike-sfb-field-8-inch-tactical-boot/ has these up on preorder as well.

  10. Adam B says:

Adam with Airsoft Outlet NW here. It’s super-cool to see the news posted here!

Just so you know, the photo of the boot we posted is not the same as the one on Nike’s website right now. The boot we posted is the SFB Jungle Boot. It has the dual-tone color and the really aggressive front sole pattern.

The one on Nike’s site is the SFB Field, (or SFB2). That model has some durability upgrades over the original, but is fairly similar. The SFB Jungle is another new design.

You can read a bit more about the SFB Field options at the link, and we are working on getting the rest of the story on the SFB Jungle as well.

While were on the subject of boots, has the Army or industry said anything else about the impending color change?
