When I first read that I thought it said “Heathen Green” and I got all excited. Nothing wrong with “Heather Green” obviously (I’m wearing one now!) but I really wanted to see what Heathen Green was.

The English language has a few words from Germanic and Latin roots for people who live out in the country, not within easy walking distance of a village church. Among these words are “heathen”, someone who lives out in the heather, and “pagan” or “peasant”. Ever wonder why some people have have the surnames “Heath” or “Hyde”, “Pagano” or “Paisano”? The may as well have lived out in the boondocks.
