Asymmetric Technologies – Advanced Shoulder Pocket (ASP)

Asymmetric Technologies’ Advanced Shoulder Pocket (ASP) is designed as a fully integrated, lightweight, wearable individual rifleman weapon stabilization system. The ASP system consists of two components: a buttstock pad, and a modular attachment that fits onto the shoulder strap of a chest rig or vest. Rare earth magnets in the dual components allow them to quickly mate up, seating the weapon in the same position every time. This also reportedly reduces the felt weight of the weapon.

Asymmetric Technologies currently has no set date for commercial release, although they do have ASP prototypes available for testing and evaluation.

Sorry, but if you’re still grabbing the mag well when you shoot and leaving the stock on your shoulder while reloading, your opinion on marksmanship has little to no value in 2014.

I love this comment. If you’re not executing the kind of tactical mag flip that can decapitate nearby enemies in a CQB environment or equipping all your rifles with 15″ rails so you can hyperextend your elbow to grip your rifle at the compensator then you shouldn’t even touching a rifle let alone having an opinion on marksmanship. I mean c’mon it’s 2014, haven’t these guys seen at least 1 Costa video yet?

    Nifty 🙂

Well not considering the effects of the magnetic field generated by a magnet that big on electronics, navigational systems. That’s definitely something to consider.

    • straps says:

      This.

Lotsa folks keep Foretrexes on their buttstocks or their shoulder straps.

      • Joe says:

might be good for people at the shooting range. But he cannot talk about people in combat. It seems like they are either trying to hard or have no idea of what they are talking about lol.Let’s say in a CQB Combat Environment. You are engaging with your assault rifle locked in place by this magnet. Engaging a distance of let’s say 100 meters(along the main road) when suddenly an enemy with a RPG pops up to the building on your right at a distance of 10-15 meters.Your assault rifle will still be pulled by the magnet on your shoulder and would make it really hard for the shooter to suddenly change direction of fire at the speed required by that situation.( well you can still engage the enemy with one harm as shown in video a guess lol)

  4. Dlo says:

Neat concept, but I dunno about letting the rifle hang like that off a shoulder magnet for a “short tactical pause”

The magnetic pull would be annoying if you had to manipulate the rifle in a tight environment

would be fun to try though

  5. .308 says:

    really silly.

  6. FLC says:

Question: compass navigation? what effect does the rare earth magnet have?

  7. Felix says:

Very sceptical, but I would love to give this a try.

  8. SGT Rock says:

Hmm… Magnets are not buddy buddy w/my compasses nor my GPS systems. 🙁

  9. FHRITP says:

This is definitely an interesting idea. While i couldnt see myself using it i see nothing wrong with anybody who chooses to utilizes a product like this that seems to have alot of potential

  10. Mike Nomad says:

Not well thought out. At least all the para’s w/ shoulder problems should get a little relief…

  11. mark says:

I like it. So long as it doesn’t mess with the onboard electronics or other gear, it could be a great option.

  12. Andrew says:

This seems like a bad idea for all aforementioned reasons as well as the fact that magnets are typically heavy and I try and save every ounce I can on my kit.

This is a hardware solution to a software problem.

  13. Desert Lizard says:

That’s alot more weight to hump around.

  14. Vince says:

I hate to be a neysayer but uhhh no. Not to mention, if your’re going to demo a product for everyone to see, you should probably learn how to shoot first.

  15. mcs says:

    Huh, interesting.
Wonder if it will stick around long enough for the above-commented concerns to be either confirmed or dispelled. Seems like it could do with some grippy material on the face of it for good measure.

Weight: I know ounces are pounds, but rare earth magnets are surprisingly powerful for their size/weight.

  16. Riceball says:

Over on the Firearms Blog they covered this product too and some of the commenters had the same critique about the magnet affecting compasses and the like but other countered with the simple fix of holding the compass a little further away from the body than normal and it won’t affect it. As for electronics, people countered that a magnet is only going to affect things with/on a magentic medium like a conventional HDD, or video tape, but something solid state like a flash drive shouldn’t be affected.

  17. subchasr says:

He needs eye pro. 🙂 But seriously, its definitely different.

    EOD guys LOVE magnets…
