Polaroid Cube Action Camera

Cube

Polaroid has now decided to step into the action camera game with the Cube. Priced at only $100, the Polaroid Cube has the following features:

– 1080P/720P video
– 6MP still photo
– Built in rechargeable battery capable of recording up to 90 min
– 124° wide angle lens
– LED indicator
– Microphone
– Weatherproof/Splash proof

It also has plenty of accessory mounts already available, such as a tripod mount, bicycle mount, helmet mount, and inarguably the best mount:

Monkey stand

With its low entry price and established accessory line, this could end up being an excellent starting action camera, or at the very least a good backup or supplementary camera.

That’s some tactical coloration right there.

      Multicam…..Exotic….

Welll, I don’t think that they were originally meant for the tactical market, almost certainly meant for regular everyday use. If you like them but are really concerned about the color it wouldn’t be all that hard to simply spray paint them whatever color you prefer or even Cerakote it.

Does it spit out stills after it takes a picture?

So according to the reviews from CNet and Gizmodo, it’s a capable device but not really competition for GoPro.

Honestly, I was cautiously optimistic about the new Contour Roam3, and sadly it didn’t live up to its hype. I think the Cube will fall to the same limitations.

At the end of the day GoPro rules the day due to its superior image quality, it’s lineage, and the number of accessories available. Plus, you can purchase if from REI, beat the hell out of it for a year, and then return it if you’re not a fan.

Interestingly, GoPro just released their ‘budget’ version at $129.99. Basically GoPro that does 1080P at 30FPS. I wonder what it will do to this market.

Intova makes some very good cameras. Less expensive than the GoPros but every bit as capable.
