Coyote Boots It Is! US Army to Change Boot Color Beginning in May

At the recent DoD footwear meeting Army and DLA informed the companies that supply footwear about their intent to change the boot color from the current desert tan to Coyote which will work better with the new Operational Camouflage Pattern.

Contracts for issue boots are being modified and you should start seeing these available through Clothing Sales in May to coincide with OCP ACU availability. A wearout date for the current tan color has not been formally announced but is expected to be o/a 30 September, 2018.

Ahhhhhhhh! I just bought tan Rocky Jungles! $200 gone!

    • Eddie says:

Just run them through the mud enough times the color darkens to a similar shade. Worth a shot. Lol

You have 2018 to wear out your Rockys. Meaning your unit will be leaning on you in 2016. How many Uniform Allowance payments is that?

Are the Rocky Jungles even Kosher under the “boot slide?”

Rough-side out tan leather, cordura nylon upper, 8-10 inches in height, matching laces, tan rubber outsole. Yes. Neither AR 670-1 nor DA PAM 670-1 say anything about the toe of commercial off the shelf boots except that it must be plain, so no steel/composite toes unless authorized.
        “(3) Optional boots.
        (a) As an option, Soldiers may wear commercial boots of a design similar to that of the Army combat boot (tan), as authorized by the commander. The boots must be between 8 to 10 inches in height and made of tan flesh-side out cattlehide leather, with a plain toe and a soling system matching the color of the tan upper materials……. The exterior of the boot upper will not contain mesh but will be constructed of either all leather or a combination of leather and nonmesh fabric….”-DA PAM 670-1
Of course, your commander has the amazing power of discretion. Replace tan with “coyote” in the PDF and you’re golden.

Brown boots and a brown, khaki and green uniform. Holy cow, we’re almost as smart as we were in 1940!

  3. xdarrows says:

Any word on a WEAR DATE for OCP?

  4. Thomas says:

Hell, any word on when we can buy the same things? Boots and uniforms.

Current timeline is May of 2015 for product to hit the shelves at MCSS.

You can expect that to move to the right. Look what happened with the new PTs…

Also, local Commanders will have discretion, at least early on.

Big unit? Could delay. Deploying (to someplace other than OEF-A)? Could delay. NOT deploying? Could delay.

This is one of those times when it’s good to be in a small unit full of OEF vets who still have their OCP…

      • CAVstrong says:

New PTs are being sold and worn at Campbell.

      • Mike says:

Here on Fort Sam the new APFUs have been on sale for about a month(ish). I have two full sets along with some extra shirts and have been wearing them for PT.

It was interesting to see, however, upon my first trip to MCSS to get the new uniform how Medium shorts (presumably one of the most popular sizes) were completely sold out. Took me about 2-3 weeks of trying to get everything I needed.

Shut up and take my money! Well, actually I’m the one who shuts up and has my money taken…never mind… :'(

  6. Zach says:

OCP is being worn by 1ABCT 1CD in Europe right now. Just sayin’.

  7. Norbis says:

Just sayn, would have waited a few months and got the coyote ones. I plan on ditching my UCP for OCP at first chance and if I can keep the tan boots with OCP, no issues. If I can’t, I guess I have a new set of jump/range/field boots.

  8. Riceball says:

You know, this sound like an opportunity for some enterprising individual(s), start selling dye that is specifically designed to change the leather and the nylon from tan to coyote. It would be easy enough for the leather part of the boots and while the nylon might be a little trickier I’m sure it’s still doable. This would be great for those people who still have a good pair of tan boots with years still left on them around the wear out date. just dye them and you’re good to go.

  9. MTNPAO says:

As the boots will to coyote…what is the status of the kit? Coyote or OCP?
