What’s This? New Weapon Lighting System

(null)

Just last week, I was at SHOT Show and speaking with a friend about the need for conformal weapon lights for rifles. Looks like someone has taken some action in this realm.

According to what little data is available this patent pending 3oz system offers up about 500 lumens and is LED based with an array of lamps configured concentrically around the endcap attached to the rail.

So far, all we’ve got to go on is this video, a couple of photos and a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/New-Weapon-Lighting-System. Hopefully, we’ll see more soon.

    CoD Advanced warfare ideas!!

Reminds me of the ring lights used on cameras.

  3. Paul J says:

But when you see this light, don’t wait for the flash.

Now we just need lights on the inside of the handguards to bling out our barrels when we do night shooting at molle cosplay summer camp.

  5. SN says:

I’d like to see a better video, how does the light activate, and can I flash it on momentarily?

I think the idea has merit, but need more data.

Who remembers that thing arms did a few years back at shot?

  7. Luke says:

looks like a pretty slick idea, my only concern is how much focus/throw your could get out of such short reflectors.
I might be alone but I like a pretty tight beam on a weapon light.

  8. DSM says:

It does have merit. Streamlines the rifle and 500 lumens is a lot of light.

I’d also be a little skeptical about the throw of an array like this without some decent mirrors. Also 360 degree illumination of the barrel. But still a cool concept and could lead to some really workable solutions.

I’d like to see four lasers, at the 12-3-6-9 o’clock positions. You could set the convergence distance, and then anything closer or farther would still be represented by a four-dot reference.

Definitely has potential. Alternate white light LEDs with IR and run two activating switches

I’d rather see a really light rifle version of the surefire xc1. Even with a larger reflector to increase throw a streamlined single aaa light would save a lot of weight at the end of the rifle.

I think the video is more of a representation that just shows the potential. Looks awesome. This being is a prototype sneak peak, I’m going to guess that the people doing this had some tricks up their sleeve to maximize the potential of this. I am interested to see how this plays out for them, if a company doesn’t just buy them out first.

Is it mounted to a picatinny rail somehow or is it a rail itself with lights at the end of it? How is the on/off switch/button/whatever done? Is the laser on the same switch or can i just use it by itself? How much does it cost?

These are a fee questions i can think of off the top of my head. Its a really good idea and interesting concept that can go really far. I hope they develop this product further and also release a good bit more details about it soon.

  15. Tahoe says:

Agreed, it needs better reflectors for increased throw and to keep the light off the barrel – but I really like that I wouldn’t have that big barrel shadow (or worse, can shadow) to the side as I do now with a rail-mounted light.
