The Gravity Hook is a project currently up on Kickstarter for a hybrid mechanical claw and grappling hook. Stand alone, it functions as a 2-pronged hook. When it impacts a surface, the mechanism opens up, and pulling it back closes the mechanism, making it great for retrieving items. The final design will be made of stainless steel, although hooks made of other materials including titanium are part of the backer rewards.
Here you can see the Gravity Hook pictured with the optional Cross Hook. When installed, the Cross Hook allows the Gravity Hook to function more like a traditional grappling hook, with 4 prongs. The Cross Hook can also function as a standalone gear tie.

My reaction to seeing this post…”why would I want that, it’s stupid”
After watching video…”HOLY SH!T, I NEED THAT”
Me too!
+1, lol
EXACTLY! Thought the SAME thing! Then I saw the video, and went, “Where has this been my entire life!?”
does anyone know the break strength of the stainless or titanium hook?
With the dimensions of the parts, alloy used and type of treatments done after manufacturing, i.e. heat treating, case hardening, it should be pretty easy to calculate.
