FirstSpear Friday Focus – VEP Modular Panel

This week’s focus is on the new VEP Modular Panel. Inspired by the success of the Vertical Envelopment Pack, FirstSpear is now offering this modular panel for custom user configuration for loads which require quick access.

Driven by specific User requirements this item offers many of the advantages of the FS Vertical Envelopment Pack (VEP) on a reinforced modular panel that accepts 6/12, 6/9 and MOLLE Pockets arranged any way that suits the mission at hand. Capable of attaching technical tools, communications equipment or specific medical supplies this panel can be flipped over the head for rapid access and then returned to the back with its slick side out presenting a minimal snag profile. When secured on the back all your magazines and other fire load are easily available. The VEP Modular Panel is a great asset to personnel operating SIGINT and related communications gear that need to remain mobile and close to the Operators who are prosecuting the information.

It works just like the Vertical Envelopment Pack. This video gives a good overview of how the VEP is used.

Available in all standard FS Colors.

    I really kinda like this!

Unfortunately, as a Medic, I rarely have use for a “regular” pack/ruck 🙁

FS hasn’t come out with a shit or dud product yet! Between them and BFG, they have gotten the bulk of my money come payday, lol.

This only works with FS plate carriers though, right?

    • Chris K. says:

Exactly, please develop the adapter for this and the VEP asap.

I’m running a VEP on a Mayflower carrier. I removed the field repairable tubes from the straps and slid them in place on my MF vest. Now the VEP works the exact same way.

Pretend I don’t know what I’m talking about, because I don’t know what I’m talking about: both look like they have a lot of potential as cruiser gear bags and additions to critical incident kits. Am I off-base: is there some secret-squirrel mil-only function these are built for?

And yeah, stand-alone or adaptors to other armor carriers would be cool. We NEVER have the time to get into military-purposed carriers, and if we are lucky no one puts on a chest rig OVER their patrol rifle while running from the car.

It’s essentially just a flat panel that is for now at least only meant to interface with First Spear products, so I see limited advantages as a cruiser bag. There are really no practical ways to carry it off of a plate carrier, especially if you have to move with it outside your vehicle. I’m not in LE, so I surely can not envision all the scenarios you might be thinking of, but my two cents is that there are better options for you based on your description.

how is this only meant to interface with First Spear products?

        From the First Spear site:

“Inlcudes standard VEP shoulder strap attachment kit and back pack straps for wear without a carrier. “

Most people don’t make it past the headlines or 2 seconds of video people they make comments.

I wish they took to the time to read about the product before spouting off with non-sense.

This would *at least* be awesome for people who have to share cars so they could move their gear at the end of a shift and at best it would allow an officer to whip it off the seat they have it attached to and attach it to them. Some jankery (it’s a word) would have to happen to the shoulder tubes to integrate them into a uniform shirt, but the waist tubes could easily be added to the duty belt.
