The Computer That Saved The Soldier’s Back, And The Helmet That Saved His Life

size0

Army.mil recently published a story detailing a motorcycle accident involving SPC Nicolas Laboy, and his subsequent recovery. Thanks to wearing a motorcycle helmet, and a laptop in his backpack, Laboy’s injuries were made much less severe. He not only avoided a fatal accident, but is on the road to a full recovery.

  1. Thank God he was wearing his helmet! Speedy recovery SPC Laboy!

Glad the dude is on the mends. I hardly ride my pig at all any more unless it is on a weekday afternoon. The traffic is just not conducive to survival. After experiencing close call after close call and dodging the hordes of blind drivers I have hardly rode at all. It’s a damn shame is what it is.

On a side note, I’m surprised the PR department at the army wrote this since it was a non work/combat related.

While still not work/combat related, it is very much applicable due to the amount of service members that ride. Very much goes to idea of dressing for the crash, not the ride.

    • Case says:

I remember one year more Marines died in motorcycle crashes than in combat operations. In the years between the Iraq wars it was the norm. So motorcycle safety is a Big Deal in the armed forces.

I’m surprised as well this is up, usually rider’s get a bad rap in the military. Hell, I was punished and sent back to MSF, after I’d already been through all 3, and nearly had my riding “privileges” suspended, even though I had been riding for 2.5 years, all because I was rear ended while I was stopped at a stoplight. In my experience, military towns are the worst for riders, because you have drivers from all over the country in one place, some places don’t require a driving test, you just get a license. The worst driver’s I’ve ever seen are at Hood. I don’t see this problem in non military towns in Texas. Except for Austin, too many liberal, self-entitled Californians. They’ll run your ass over in a heart beat.

        • T.H says:

YES, us Californians purposefully target bike riders to run over… Or maybe its the bikers who think they own the road and can do whatever they want in traffic??? Like the one who ran from the police last week at 150mph only to become a permanent part of the center divide under an overpass.

As the guy who was the paralyzed veteran who stood for his first dance. He’s damn lucky. Go get them. And don’t let them force you out of the military.
