It makes me sad that the magazine release is essentially Magpul cashing in on the good design work done by Odin Works.

    • SSD says:

I haven’t seen any Magpul designs that weren’t incubating for a long time. How long has the Odin Works model been out there?

    • Jon C. says:

      1. It is much smaller than the Odin Works design, it’s not even twice the size of the GI button.

      2. Paddles that attach with two screws were around in the last century, well before Odin Works.

  2. Joe Flowers says:

Yeah, mine isn’t Odin. It kinda wobbles a bit, so I’m not a huge fan. Will definitely look into Odin and Magpul. (I actually think I might have discovered the brand I bought from reading an article on SSD–some shooter talking about his favorite upgrades, of which it was one.)

    • Jon C. says:

They all wobble. The GI button moves that much as well, you just don’t notice because it lacks an extension.

The shape of the mag release and the weight pulling down on them make tighter tolerances difficult, as the button will tend to bind and not retain/release magazines. The wobble isn’t a functional issue, but making them tighter can cause problems.

This isn’t an earth-shattering development from us…just one of those things that others were too large, not shaped the way we wanted, not finished the way we wanted, whatever. So…We made one. It’s big enough to make a difference, not too large to cause camming in the slot and binding, shaped not to snag, as much as it can be, etc.
