Triple Aught Design – FAST Pack EDC

IMG_4372

This is the latest generation of Triple Aught Design’s FAST Pack EDC. Although the overall appearance is similar to the previous version, the pack has been re-engineered from the ground up, based on customer feedback and testing. The FAST platform is designed around rugged construction and modular adaptability, and the FAST Pack EDC perfectly embodies this concept. The FAST Pack is made of durable 1000D and 500D Invista Cordura Fabric, and features PALS webbing and internal anchor points throughout to allow for optimal end-user configuration. The FAST Pack EDC also features a weather-resistant secondary compartment which is optimal for critical electronics and documents, which is accessible through a secure roll-top closure.

We’re going to run it through its paces over the next few weeks and give you our impressions.

You know a pack is heavy when they play the ounces and kg game knowing many people can’t easily convert them.

    2. Dev says:

Like their apparel and packs but too much Velcro and PALS.

Got to say nice tiles too.

    3. Kerbert says:

How exactly will you be putting it through it’s paces?

    4. David says:

I wish the made more GrayMan packs or something. Way too much PALS and velcro.

    5. Steve says:

Dude, Really 340 Dollars… I thought about it a while… I really want and need a good pack… sorry …. not! I could get a great pack and tons of other stuff from a lot of other good American companies …. I just want to say FU! Do I have a good point ? Or am i an asshole? Please let me know! Check later again….

      • Whiskey Bravo says:

        You’re just an asshole.

      • Kerbert says:

Just because it’s not for you doesn’t mean it’s a bad pack or overpriced. Maybe you’re just a bitter old poor man.

TAD makes great kit. As for the cost, they operate out of San Francisco. I can only imagine how expensive their overhead is.

        • Steve says:

It is for me … its just too expensive. I am going to get it anyway, I need another pack. I never said it was a bad pack….its a great fucking pack ….that is why i am going to get it anyway. Far from bitter… some might even say “a great MF” I am getting old, 49….maybe i should act my age, but fuck that. San Francisco…no fucking wonder they are expensive…Maybe i could convince Timbuck 2 to go tactical…na I think the owner a pacifist. Anyway…

    6. Steve says:

Dear Moderation Team…. That means you running this great site! Now I love this site… I understand they gave you a pack… But I feel strangely about this cause i do not think you want to post my last comment. Use your non biased journo-listic
objectivity and post it …. you know its the right thing to do. I am taking screen shots of it for my own and others amusement …

      • L.Washing says:

Sometimes you should maybe wait more than exactly 30min before accusing of censorship and being generally a douche (check your last sentence for reference…you know it’s the right thing like that about you)

Live long and may the force prosper with you!

        • Steve says:

Good Point…Because like all good Vice writers (no such thing) the facts only fool some of the people some of the Times… Brooklyn is fast who has a half hour to write and fact check Censorship….Plus i am working on some new techniques.
          Thanks!

      • Phil says:

how do you know they gave it to Eric for free?

        • Steve says:

I dont. I sure as fuck hope they did. I do not know the guy personally … but i know he does this site… and that is good enough for me.

    7. lcpl1066 says:

I would like to go on a ruck with and SKDs new pack and which feels better after 12 miles

      • Phil says:

        which one?

      • Kerbert says:

This isn’t a ruck, it’s an EDC pack. It’s also not a military pack, TAD is a commercial gear company. The military influence is definitely there but good lord man get to know the industry.

    8. SSD says:

      Steve,

I probably would have approved your comment until you decided to say that you were taking screen shots for your and others’ amusement. I’m not sure what you’re up to, but kindly do it somewhere else.

      Eric

    9. demure says:

I think that my TAD lightspeed is a great bag. I do wish that they would release the non-pals version of the compression piece, having seen it in a few earlier reviewer’s possession.

    10. Steve says:

Just Feeling Sheepish and silly today. Its your call about 1st and 2nd post of mine. I still feel you should post the 1st. Its silly to be this childish … did not mean to be an dick. Sorry to distract you. Check site late tonight.

      Thanks Eric.

    11. Ex Coelis says:

First and foremast, I’m a gear-head. Always been a gear-head since, way-back-when… And let’s face it, these are truly halcyon days for newly designed and/or improved kit! I’m a big fan of TAD and always have been. Unfortunately, almost all of their gear is at a particular price-point that’s slightly out of my financial reach. Nevertheless, do they make great kit? Absolutely!! While I’ll agree that this iteration of TAD’s EDC pack is not quite ‘Grey-man’, it’s a well improved and well thought out everyday pack and it’s no accident that Operators who can actually buy this kit, love it so much. Frankly, given to the choice of a Triple Aught Designs EDC pack and a Crye Precision AWS pack placed in front of me, it would an exceedingly difficult choice to make. Really looking forward to reading what SSD thinks about this pack in the coming weeks. Willing to wager SSD will have some very interesting things to say about this particular pack and will keep my eyes open for such. Thanks SSD for posting yet another great article about one of my favourite subjects – New and improved PACKS!!! Cheers SSD!!!!
