A Press Release Is Just A Press Release

I recently read a post on Facebook that featured a link to one of our articles and stated that we said a company “did good work.”  As I didn’t recall ever stating that, I went to the link and it was a press release we had published from said company.

As an “industry blog” we are going to occasionally do just that; post a press release.  We might add a little intro that lets you know how we feel, but the fact that something appears on our page isn’t necessarily a vote of confidence on our part.  It’s just industry news and nothing more.  We’ll happily let you know when something is great, but a press release is just a press release.

You have to forgive the masses. They are used to receiving news from the media that is skewed the way the media wants the masses to believe. So since the peons see something on here they will automatically think that it is an endorsement.

Just think, If we didn’t have stupid people such as the masses, we just might have figure out time travel about 50 years ago….Just a thought.

Why can’t people just enjoy what SSD brings you, which is cool stories, an easier way to find cool stuff, and a way for us old soldiers to talk shit about our brothers in arms?

Perhaps some level of categorization / use of tags could help. Also a more modern design.

Say, use tags for “gear”, “press releases”, “reviews”, “infomercials”, “industry events”/”shows”, etc.

If you weren’t such a douche, you’d realize we have that.

Dang it SSD you beat me to it. This guys comment gets a WTF tag.

Wow, SSD. You could have politely set him straight, instead you chose to change his handle and insult him.

          Not very professional.

In fact, I can think of a few that you were absolutely not advocating, but must have been submitted for pure pot-stirring effect.

I’m not just here for the comments, but sometimes it feels like 50/50…

I like it when people correct the press release’s grammar. That’s the best.

But when is it in stock and how to do I place an order on SSD?

I’ll be honest, I’ve been unsure a number of times in part whether a post was a press release, your own review, or some combination. For example the recent TAD fast pack post says it’s “perfect” which seems like press release, but then you have the line about testing it out…

I understand that the site will post press releases, but a method to differentiate between them and your opinion would be a nice upgrade (if I just wanted the press releases I could just join all the various mailing lists). Maybe press releases in an indented text box?

    • SSD says:

We can do that. But the example was a straight up press release with the bold location at the outset.

I went back and looked at the issue you raised. That’s what happens when you have employees who don’t care about your business as much as you do. My fault though. Should have known I couldn’t delegate without micromanaging.

I’ve been there; the joys of management. Overall a great site and a good resource. Keep it up.
