NEWINGTON, N.H. (November 5, 2015) — SIG SAUER, Inc., has returned the venerable P225 pistol to its catalog and is now shipping the classic handgun to dealers and distributors.

The P225-A1 retains the exceptional look and feel of the original P225, but features an enhanced trigger and the precision manufacturing and quality from the state-of-the-art SIG SAUER facility.

“We set out to re-create the fantastic ergonomics of the P225, but we also wanted to make the best P225 ever built,” said John Brasseur, Director of Product Management for SIG SAUER, Inc. “While the original West German P225 was a fantastic pistol, the degree of precision and accuracy we can obtain now makes this the ultimate expression of the P225.”

The P225-A1 is a single-stack 9mm pistol with the time-tested double-action/single-action trigger system. A fully machined stainless steel slide is finished in the durable Nitron finish. A hard coat anodized frame sports two-piece grips with the SIG mark medallion.

With a lineage as the long-time handgun of the West German police, and a popular concealed carry option in the American market, the P225-A1 is a time-tested performer. The slim slide profile and shorter barrel length is easy to carry yet retains the familiar controls of its full-size batterymate the P226.

Featuring the accuracy, reliability and durability of all SIG SAUER products, the P225-A1 combines the elements of the company’s history with the cutting-edge manufacturing of modern day SIG.

The P225-A1 is now shipping and available at SIG SAUER dealers across the country.

Big Sig fan myself so I’m not talking crap cuz I love every Sig I have and every Sig I owned these are great shooters. I had an old police refurbished one the 225 and 239 are same size and these are single stack where 228 or the 229 is the same size as the 225 but double stack…

    • It might be the cold meds but if I read that right you just said the 239 and the 228/229 series are the same size…

      • Bill says:

He said that and he is correct. There is little difference in size between the 239/225/228/229.

        • Width? May not be a drastic difference but it still is a carrry factor.

          • Bill says:

Not significant. I have the 239 and the 229. They take the same holsters, including the Safariland ALS (nonrailed versions). They print and carry the same regardless of holster choice or position, the exception being ankle carry. What is more significant than width is magazine capacity. I have yet to find anyone that would argue that fewer rounds are better than more rounds.

        • Ed says:

There are some differences, even though they are small, other than the obvious single stack/double stack magazine differences:

          P239
          Length 6.6″
          Barrel Length 3.6″
          Sight Radius 5.2″
          Height 5.1″
          Width 1.2″
Weight w. Empty Magazine 29.5 oz.
          9mm Capacity 8+1
          .40S&W Capacity 7+1

          P225
          Length 6.9″
          Barrel Length 3.6″
          Sight Radius 5.2″
          Height 30.5″
          Width 1.26″
Weight w. Empty Magazine 30.5 oz.
          9mm Capacity 8+1

          P228/P229/M11A1
          Length 7.1″
          Barrel Length 3.9″
          Sight Radius 5.7″
          Height 5.4″
          Width 1.5″
Weight w. Empty Magazine 29.1/29.5/32.0 oz
          9mm Capacity 13+1/15+1/15+1

          My preference(s)?
If carrying concealed IWB, a SIG P239 SAS in .40 S&W with a +1 mag extender base plate, giving 8+1 capacity with little change in height. Alternatively, the P239 Tactical has a threaded 9mm barrel that gives a 4.0″ barrel length for improved ballistic performance with little change in concealability with the right holster. Compare that to the barrel length of the P228/P229/M11A1 with a 3.9″ barrel.

If openly carrying OWB, a SIG P228 in 9mm with a 15 round Mec-Gar magazine. Yes, it does balance better than a P229 because of the stamped/welded slide instead of the solid stainless slide. Quantity of ammunition capacity has a quality of its own.

In either pistol, the Short Reset Trigger, standard with SAS and Tactical models of the P239, does improve the shooting experience. Having small hands, I can quickly grip and fire the single stack magazine P239 better than the double stack P228.

          Would I buy a new P225 over a new P239?
No. I believe that some of the attraction of the P225 is the price of well-maintained used pistols in the marketplace.

  2. Disco says:

And Sig will find a way to screw this up or make one.

    • Bill says:

“Milled stainless steel slide” so SIG already blew it. The stamped carbon slides just make a better balanced pistol. Which is funny considering I own five SIGs and all have the milled slides.

  3. PETE says:

Will this be short trigger compatible?
I fear Disco may be right… Had a dog of a P239 that seriously soured me on SIG.

  4. Matt says:

I’ve got a P220-10. Love it. Also have a P22 MK25 and it has treated me well also.

  5. Bill says:

My all-time favorite SIG. But now i’m torn between this, the Legion and the 320. It almost makes up for Tribal stocks, rainbow titanium, and Toolbox chrome.

  6. Kango says:

Anyone know if the mags are compatible with the old 225?

    • Disco says:

They are not, thus diminishing interest.

FFS Sig, do you even care anymore.
Just make the guns that we want. Not tribute crap or bling crap. Get the TDPs that YOU ALREADY HAVE and crank out the guns like they were intended to be made

  7. Brian says:

Mags being not interchangeable is a big deal to guys like me with old West German P225s. Then again, this is coming from the company who couldn’t figure out how to fix the internal extractors on the P220s made in US. Perhaps they should just stick to getting P320s right. I know a lot of ppl who have been waiting on the improved slide release for a while.

  8. kris says:

Has the market been asking for a full size single stack DA 9mm?

  9. Aaron says:

How about bring back the 232?
