DirtMonkey Puts Unbreakable IronLace To The Test

It’s been a little while since we last had anything on IronLace on SSD. A recent email from an industry contact about a video featuring IronLace gave us the perfect opportunity for a reintroduction. Said video (above) shows Stanley of NY-based Dirt Monkey University putting the IronLace boot laces through some unconventional paces, including a blowtorch and using the laces as a towing anchor. Obviously, as bootlaces, IronLaces are best used to, well, lace up boots; it certainty is a impressive display of their durability, all the same.

As a reminder, IronLace boot laces are capable of withstanding up to 1600 lbs of tension, are virtually chemical proof, UV ray resistant, water proof, abrasion resistant, and heat resistant up to 630 deg F. Additionally, IronLace’s work with RLCB has led to IronLace boot laces being categorized as a Skillcraft product.

Serious question. What happens if a medic needs to cut someone’s laces off to remove a boot from an injured leg?

    • SSD says:

Guess he’ll have to unfasten them.

    • Preston says:

Or just cut the boot off. Course that’ll depend on what type of boot it is and what materials its made out of.

In general high strength aramid and synthetic cords are extremely strong, abrasion, and heat resistant – but only slightly harder to cut through than regular cords. Part of the reason a IIIA vest can stop a .44 mag, but not a sharp, narrow blade.

I’m not sure what Iron Laces are made of, but I do a lot of work with Kevlar and Technora cord and they can bet cut with a well made pair of scissors or sharp pocket knife. Although when making hundreds of cuts a day a ceramic blade is ideal.

You use scissors to cut the boot laces. The stamped steel bandage scissors used by EMTs and paramedics can cut pennies in half.

    • Adun says:

I know how you do it normally, I was just curious as to wether or not these laces might impede that process is all.

  3. Brett says:

I wonder how they would stand up to my shoelace obsessed, scissor mouthed feline friend.

    • Craig says:

      X2!

I don’t know what it is, but ANY shoelaces left out, are like a beacon to my cat!
