Great idea. But does anyone know what “insect repellent” they use? They don’t list it in the tech specs and that matters.
I’ll look into it.
They do specifically name “InsectShield”, which is a specific brand of Permethrin-based treatment.
Thanks. I somehow missed that.
One who uses it should keep in mind, that it’s good against flying insects, but close to useless against ticks, because parka is too short to be tucked into pants and elastic arm bands are way worse than ones with Velcro wrap – they basically making a perfect shelter for ticks.
I don’t know anyone who uses those for Ticks. I’ve got one from Ex Officio and it works for flying insects just fine but can get hot depending on the temperature and humidity.
Since it doesn’t specify particular type of insects (except “pesky” ones), it worth mentioning, I suppose.
Like someone mentioned above, they use Insectshield brand mesh material, which is a permethrin based product. Permethrin is both an arthropod repellant as well as an insecticide so it does kill ticks on contact. Our Dept has been using the Sawyer brand treatment on our backcountry clothing with good results.
