By the time the politicians had finally gotten their act together on July 4th, 1776, colonists had already been in open rebellion against the British crown for well over a year. And consider this; a very small percentage of colonists took up arms and actively resisted the occupying British forces. The rest sat around wringing their hands, worried about the uncertainty of Liberty. But Providence guided those brave souls who made us a Nation, and I will be forever grateful for their vision, determination, and sacrifice.
Time and time again, we find the acts of free men don’t always require a stamp of approval. And time and time again, free men say, “Enough!”

They captured this period in the first season of that TV series “Turn-Washingtons Spies” well. People forget that the original rebellion were considered traitors and terrorists by many of their neighbors and winning was very much not a certainty. Brave men to stand up to the big British government.
We are so blessed and so indebted to those who sacrificed against the greatest odds.
That is the epitome of courage and leadership. Our Brothers and Sisters who went before us 241 years ago represent that American spirit of will, to be independent and free of tyranny. God bless our founders and what they started.
What has this to do with Brexit? The EU is not a regime but a cooperative efford in keeping peace and unity in europe after the last world war. The british where lied to big time by Farrage and other pro Brexit people. Now those same people who lied run away with their tails tucked in because the whole Brexit started to sound like a really shitty deal for them.
So again: What has this to do with Brexit?
There is no standig up against oppression or tyranny behind the Brexit. It was just plain stupid.

No, i really don’t get it. I just re-read the article and i can’t find even find trace amounts of humor in this. Granted, english is not my mothertounge so i may be missing some of the finer points of english/american humor.
Splitting from an oppressive regime and becoming an independant nation and dropping out of a union you wanted to be part of in the first place is just not the same to me.

The article points out that only 3% of the colonists wanted to separate from Britain and become an independent country. The great majority wanted to stay as British subjects. That is the similarity with “Brexit”; Britain joined the EU and many wanted to stay in it but in the end voted out.
