SIG SAUER - Never Settle

SSD Saturday Night At The Movies Presents “The Challenge”

This 1970 made-for-TV movie stars Darren McGavin and Mako as two warriors chosen to represent their countries in a fight to the death on a deserted island in order to avert war.  Intrigue ensues, as was the tradition during the Cold War.

Thanks to TominVA for the find!

For years, I tried to remember this movie title. I had seen it as a kid, and thought it was great. A few years back, I tucked in and researched it, until I found the title. Then, I had to really search until I found where I could get it on DVD. It was fun to watch it again. I love Darren McGavin.

    Glad to help.

I’m disappointed no one’s come forward to ID the weapon(s). Maybe it’s a total studio manufacture, but it seems to be functional. Must be based on something real.

Peter Watkins’ The Gladiators (AKA The Peace Game) was year previous. Available on DVD:

I also remember watching this movie on a Saturday afternoon with my father. I had remembered bits and pieces of it for all these years, the double subgun, the poisoning of the water, the leg injury, etc. I did some searching online to no avail, until SSD posting. Way to go!!!
Thanks for the post and thank you SSD.
