Can we all get peltors as earpro? or maybe even silence all our weapons up to the 240 (like the rangers have done) not only would it save hearing ( and taxpayer money in VA claims) but the gain in situational awareness would definitely save lives.

    • Hubb says:

I think you have a legitimate idea with using silencers/suppressors…the USMC is testing that concept now.

Except there isn’t money for it. Keywords are “Battalion” and in the title is “wants”.

        • Andrew says:

Although increased survivability of the war fighter should be enough, once the right people understand how much money will be saved in the long run, money will be made available.

I still think it’s funny they have to test it. USSOCOM has been using them for decades. The concept is sound.

The Marines are just piddling around with this. If they were serious, they’d have written a requirement and give to Congress which would have happily appropriated the funds for it.

Hell, I am in an Stryker National Guard unit and we have alot of peltors in our cages.

        • Hubb says:

Yeah…not exactly cutting edge technology or concept…with mass production and a huge economy of scale the price per can should come down a lot.

    • Attack7 says:

Yep, our Bde got all leaders Peltor ComTac’s and all gunners/mortarmen TEP-100s. Jumpmasters are wearing TEP-100s as well. Don’t wait on Big Mil to get it for you!

So, when I was down range my supply guy ordered 3M peltor headsets for us… At 900 dollars a peice, they are actually coded as expendable items. By the end of the deployment, we had like 35 sets to give out to the guys. In the age of F35s, ELCANs, ACOGs, and AH64Es, it is crimal that every service member isn’t issued a pair of electronic ear pro at RFI before they head over..

When I did an exchange with the MN ARNG I was surprised to see that they only used foamies (if that) at the range for everything we did. We use dual (foamies and muffs) for everything.

No wonder every US service man has significant hearing loss by the end of service.
