Brewing the already made malt once again.
Looks good. However, I’m concerned about the new woodland pattern (FG x). It appears to be lighter than than the transitional one, and has a different geometry than the rest of the patterns. I hope the new woodland pattern is darker than the classic FG, as it’s far too light and needs stronger disruption. I have found FG to blend better with grasslands and even semi deserts than with forest or jungle.
The FG pattern saw extensive use in the forest of Endor, and performed quite well.
IME, as long as you’re in the shade of the forest canopy, FG works fine. In the open and especially in front of a tree-line, its too light. It’s almost as light as standard Multicam.
My understanding is that all the colors used are the same as the original AU and FG, just in the new iX Pattern. So now there will be only one A-TACS Pattern with multiply color variations.
Next question, in our realm is… Are they gonna do one color pattern for gear, or all 5? 5 is a logistical nightmare, especially when they change patterns every few years. I can sell one, but 5, nope, not doing it, learned that lesson.
From what I gather, A TACS Ix is meant to be the primary color for gear. It’s meant to work with well AUx, Ix, and FGx patterns.
I guess Cordura will also be available in LEx and ATx also.
I’m hoping one pattern goes mainstream for nylon, then I MAY stock it, but if they go with more than one (non-black or white) I’ll completely avoid the system. I still have AU and FG I’m trying to unload.
If you have any of the trench coats* in FG or AU….
*They are not spray painted lab coats, nosirree, notatall.
Getting manufacturers to put it on 50/50 poly/cotton and not just 65/35 will make this even better.
Mil Spec 50/50 NYLON/cotton is the way to go. Poly/Cotton is no Bueno.
Nyco is the way to go, anything but that cardboard feeling 65/35 Poly blend.
I agree with you Jon, 65/35 rigid, “canvas-feel” cloth isn’t the way to go for temperate and tropical climates.
I have since phased out and sold off all of my so-called “battle RIP” uniform parts made in cheap-a$s Poly/Cotton and replaced with either 50/50 NYCO ripstop or at least 60/40 cotton/poly ripstop.
A-TACS is currently readily available in NYCO, so I hope there shouldn’t be a shortage of that material to carry future A-TACS patterns listed above. Fingers crossed.
I really like that 4th transitional pattern (FG-X?), very Multicam-like at least from the distance, and that could only be a good thing.
Looks Great!
Now if only the Army would adopt a family of patterns…..any family at this point….
A-TACs is all looks. There is no real science to back it up.
In other words…
