In HS this guy had a chopped customized volkswagon
Love! Is this one of our early SEALs operating in the Mekong??
Great History!
*Love it!
In context of the Vietnam era, the sewn-on rank and name/service tapes indicate this is either not a SEAL, or is a publicity shot. The weapon also appears to be in such poor state that I do not believe that any combat unit would carry it.
the jungle is rough on weapons man damn rough
Does the gas system look inverted as well, or is that just the pic?
Never mind, just realized that’s the muzzle
I’m still not sure what’s going on at the muzzle?!?!
This is a really interesting picture fro a number of reasons, but I’m curious: anyone have any insight as to that the little dropper bottle taped to the bayonet on our man’s shoulder might be?
Iodine or bleach solution for turning horrible tasting lethal rice paddy water into even more horrible tasting non-lethal water.
Thanks!
it is water purification tablets and next to that is a straw, so he can drink water from a small pocket of water.
The straw is so when he hides in water, he can breathe through the straw. Then he pops up and shoots Charlie with that sweet rifle.

That looks like a syringe to me
Bet that pushed that little rascal somewhat! Sure it was comforting however.
Can you imagine this? Today you get flak over painting an issue rifle. Yeah chief I’d like to saw the barrel off my issue rifle then lets weld the firing grip and trigger mechanism off one of our crew served guns onto it. Whatcha think?
Different times. Today we’re restricted by overly-regulated-everything, imposed and controlled by the overzealous bureaucrats of a nanny state.
Dad also never had cleaning gear the entire time he was deployed. 1/1965 – 11/1965. Sand an motor oil to clean with plus enough sustained fire one night to catch his M14 stock on fire. When he turned that in, he said there was no pits on it, but, there also wasn’t any blue either. He also carried a model 12, and a Thompson, none of which were ‘issued’, rather were ‘acquired’. Fast and loose…
It looks like he is wearing a paracord bracelet…were they around back then?
That’s a bracelet, yes…but not necessarily a paracord one.
“Holy Mother of all muzzle flashes Batman!”
Half the point of that thing! Can you imagine someone burning a 40rder at you from 10m?
Loving the huge PO2 shoulder patch!
How about that awesome magazine extension job…
one of the best camo patterns ever.
In for first “TRIGGER DISCIPLINE” comment…
🙂
That’s not the trigger it’s a foregrip.
Pretty sure that the guy has a wallet that says “Bad Motherfucker”.
Can you say boomstick? Must have been hell firing next to him.
