Thyrm Launches PyroVault

Sunnyvale, CA —

The metal fluid lighter has been around since the 1930’s. It’s a beloved piece of Americana. But it’s not without fault. Major complaints include the evaporation of fuel, slippery case and lack of an attachment method. Thyrm addresses these issues and takes the traditional metal lighter into the future with the PyroVault.

“We had a blast designing modern-day armor for the classic, fluid lighter. The goal was to create a shell that retained the ability to use fluids available in remote and austere conditions but adds sealing to keep the elements out and the fluid in.” said THYRM CEO Andrew Frazier. “We also wanted a clip to attach it to gear, and grip surfaces so it doesn’t turn into a bar of soap when it’s wet and dirty.”

The PyroVault fits most Zippo-style inserts including butane torch versions. It’s made of reinforced nylon for toughness and an O-ring provides a waterproof seal. The latch is spring-loaded for one-handed operation. The MOLLE/PALS compatible clip means that your lighter will be right where you need it when you need it.

The PyroVault is made in the USA and available for purchase at Thyrm.com and at authorized dealers.

I wonder how well this prevents zippo fuel evaporation? That’s my main complaint about zippos in general

    • Andrew (THYRM) says:

Classic zippos dry out in 8 days or so depending on the environment. We have Pyrovaults out to 2 months that still light up.

I just received one of these, yesterday, and while I am pleased with the overall design of this case, I am more than a little disappointed in the lid closure.

The lid does not securely seal over the o-ring gasket, and there is a gap at the spring latch edge.

It might keep rain off, but it is NOT “waterproof” under any kind of simple immersion.

Five seconds in a glass of water, and bubbles were streaming out from the body of my lighter, and the inside was rapidly filling with water.

Alright Thyrm, I’m in. The fast evaporation kills me.

What lighter is in the photos? Not a zippo?
