Every once in awhile I have to come in and remind our fine readers that we live in the age of plenty. Everything you see doesn’t suck.
Consider these suggestions:
Be civil, yet descriptive, in your comments.
If you have experience with something, feel free to share.
If you don’t like a price tag, make more money.
If you don’t like a color, well, fashion is an individual taste. Keep it classy.
If you’ve never actually seen something and have no idea what it’s used for; ask, rather than demonstrate to everyone else how goofy you are.
And one more thing, don’t accuse government acquisition officials of malfeasance, unless you have actual proof.
Thanks for what you do Eric, I can only barely appreciate the patience it requires at times. ๐
As the above said, not quite sure how you deal with all the ignorance and idiocy. Thanks for posting this reminder.
Hanlon’s razor: Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity or ineptitude.
That being said, do not attribute to stupidity or ineptitude that which can be explained by your own lack of knowledge about a topic. (Hmm, that’s pretty good)
That is epic.
Comments section is more often a repository of knowledge, insightful sharing etc than idiocy. Most times anyway. Always look forward to reading comments following articles. Please let us keep it that way. Thanks everybody.
Great movie….
When i mention “airforce seat covers for 10g”or the “big joe 5 crossbow” on purchasing something expensive or reinveting the wheel…
“unnecassarily”
is it an accusation,yet?
Or is based on bereaucratic expirience a well founded assumption….
i know ” to assume makes an a** out of me.
Well, if you knew anything about Acquisitions, youโd understand why Aircraft toilet seats cost so damned much.
A comment like, โwhy the hell does that cost so much?โ is a good way to learn. Saying, โwho is getting baksheesh for those overpriced toilet seats?!โ demonstrates a level of ineptitude.
A goofy new product? Sure, they exist.
A product you canโt afford? Make more money, no one cares you are poor.
A product you have no use for? Nobody cares.
I will still laugh at the airforce when they wear shemagh doorags and multicam visors to the range.
Would you like to buy a comma or two?
Thanks for putting up with us Eric. I know it’s rough. I try not to sink too low but every once in a while I have to ask if something “comes in FR?” just to watch the subsequent fire. Petty, I know. I’ll reel it in.
Ok. I’ll stop stalking Surefire on the XH55. Mea culpa. ๐
The reality is, a large majority of items that you post are developed for a specific customer and are based upon that customer’s requirements. Very few people understand that they are NOT the intended customer nor does anyone care what you think about the cost or features because the item wasn’t developed for YOU.
SSD is an amazing tool that informs it’s readership about these items and gives down to the lowest man on the team, visibility on what is available and in the process of being developed.
Because many don’t have any idea how military/govt acquisition works, people spew nonsense and discuss cost.
We’re all guilty of it at some point. We want to comment and make our point, even if we aren’t 100% aware of what we are talking about, because we all have opinions.
Eric, I truly appreciate your format, your website, and understand your frustration. Keep up the amazing service YOU provide to warfighters, police, and other govt people. It makes the whole community better off.
But can you provide us with a quote?
The “I can’t believe Arc’Teryx is charging so much for one of a kind, specially developed Arctic Warfare kit” comment thread comes to mind.
You get comments you dislike…….gotcha ๐
We get lots of comments. Unfortunately, some are from idiots and liars.
