Geissele is better than you and they know it.
Before folks get too worked up, Geissele did confirm on their IG page that these WILL be available separately once they have production ramped up sufficiently for their rifles first.
What’s the word on these being able to survive a 4’ drop on dirt? Sorry, but after #railgate and no comment regarding the URG-i, I’m glad I have all the SSA-E triggers I need because G doesn’t get anymore of my money.
Jeb, can you please elaborate? I’m not aware of any URG-1 issues, could you please enlighten me?
Thank you.
There are two schools of thought over at AR15.com. One is that Geiselle are crooks and are going to get our boys killed (you know, the rational side) and the other opinion is that the URG-I is, quite literally, what the army asked for so if you don’t like it take it up with them.
I think there are some subtleties worth knowing in there (there is a drop video and a lawsuit so far) but its getting on 120 pages of increasing hysteria over there so, as someone who is taking receipt of a URG-I in about a week, I’m going to wait and see for myself.
Of note is that a few early commercial users were reporting clearance issues between the DD gas block and the rail (DD block getting on 20 years old rail new maybe?). G hasn’t directly addressed some of the more pointed questions regarding drop damage and resultant loss of zero for mounted devices but this all kicked into emotional high gear around the holidays and shot show. Also there has been a certain contingent of overzealous volunteer “beta testers” that just can’t wait to smash a new rifle soooo.
We’ll see.
Ed, Scrutineer summarized it. I don’t care about the theatrical knob gobbling associated with ar15.com or even the lawsuit that went nowhere, I do however care about that video and the silence on G’s side. I do have a few of their triggers, a Mk4 and Mk16 shorty rail along with a complete URG-i. Zero complaints with my URG-i with the 30 rnds I have through it. Caveat, you will most likely need to shave the Mk12 gas block for clearance. Haven’t done mine but it’s needed as I’m keeping it. G was supposed to address the gas blocks, cannot comment on if they were. I’m ok with a company banging the dog (some have lower standards than I), I’m just curious how they respond when caught. G has not addressed the bent rail video or the PowerPoint slide from .mil
I do have some experience with the DD MK12 gasblock. That is odd that DD would place a MK12 GB under a rail instead of using a Low-Pro GB. when I was a newby 8 yrs and built a mid-length with a MK12 GB it would not fit under a DD rail unless it was the carbine length. This seems like an issue that DD and G would of seen coming a mile away.
Ed, per G the Mk12 was kept in use because of the .mil testing that it has achieved while the G has block has no certification to assert its reliability. In regards to the URG-i, I believe there was quite a few things they should of saw coming. I like mine enough to keep it but would not recommend until issues were addressed with and fixed.
I opted in for the G gas block instead of the DD since it seemed, to me at least, that being from the same mfg. it would be more compatible ( it does seem to be according to pics). I’m not ready to deuce on the whole thing yet.
Meh,
Rear sight reminds me of the YHM sights.
IMHO as far as most aesthetically pleasing looking fixed sights, Scalarworks hands down.
