There is an even earlier take on this same concept – .50 BMG caliber shoulder fired rifle – from the 1940’s! I’m struggling to find a link, but I’ve seen a photo of a .50 cal , buffered, shoulder fired rifle of very similar configuration to this Barrett. Black and white, everyone wearing fedoras – think I saw this in “Machine Gun News” or “Small Arms Review” about 10 years ago. Article said recoil was very manageable. Might have been a WWII era Melvin Johnson project.
