Seattle Police Deter Illegal Laser Use By Employing BE Meyers & Co GLARE HELIOS Device

An interesting photo (there’s a video as well) showed up recently on Reddit causing us to do a little digging.

Around the country, we are seeing demonstrations against police brutality turn violent and even deadly. One tactic used by rioters is to laze law enforcement officers and even their horses with commercial off the shelf laser pointers which may injure the eye or cause blindness for the recipient of the laser energy.

Seattle PD has used the MAWL device as an aiming laser for several years and knew that nearby BE Meyers & Co had developed an eye-safe laser dazzler.

According to BE Meyers & Co, after confrontation with threat lasers, SPD reached out to to borrow a GLARE HELIOS (Class 1M, as opposed to the Class 2M GLARE RECOIL, both of which are FDA approved). Both systems are non-kinetic, less than lethal options for deterrence. Additionally, they are the only two systems in the US approved for use as hail and warning devices by LE.

For those of you unfamiliar with the system, it features their patented SmartRange™ laser range finding technology, and near-field detection to immediately identify range-to-target, and automatically outputs a visible green laser at maximum eye-safe power. Its powerful green beam provides visual escalation of force/hail and warning capabilities from 3 meters to beyond 16 kilometers, safely alerting targets and assisting end-users in determining intent.

Quite simply, the GLARE HELIOS worked. Not only did it distract the laser attackers from focusing their beams on the line officers and instead focus on the SPD Officer using he system, it diverted the attention of the crowd. Every individual that was targeted with the GLARE HELIOS either left the area immediately after being engaged, became ineffective, or was detained by detectives on their way out after being identified.

Organizations seeking this non-kinetic, less than lethal device should visit bemeyers.com.

Along with the GLARE HELIOS, BE Meyers & Co sent laser eye protection by Revision Military (specifically StingerHawk eyewear with GF-8 LazrBloc® lens).

A quick discussion with Revision verified what we suspected, Police from all over have been contacting them for LEP.

Laser threats vary and consequently so do the lenses Revision offers, each tuned to different bands.

Revision offers laser lenses in all their eyewear form factors and the development of custom solutions, but Sawfly and StingerHawk spectacle lenses are in stock.

Contact www.revisionmilitary.com for more details on the laser eye protection systems.

Aaahhh… Those pesky “rioters” exercising thier 1st amendment rights. Isn’t the MAWL usually run on the guns of assaulters? All these sheepdogs “protectors from the tyrannies” sure don’t seem mind militarized police or the idea of a parachute infantry regiment clearing the streets of America…… The same parachute infantry regiment like we sent to Kuwait a few months ago with the expectation of them slaughtering a few city blocks if anyone tried to fuck with the embassy in Iraq.

I see reading isn’t your strong suit.

Nowhere in the article, or reality, has SPD been using MAWLs on citizens.

Those rioters have been blinding police and bystanders with lasers, causing permanent damage. They are performing criminal acts which are being responded to by law enforcement with a non-kinetic, non-lethal system.

It’s absolutely fascinating how you can take a set of facts, make up false information, and weave an entirely new narrative.

      Bravo!

That’s definitely not a MAWL and read the article. The HELIOS is specifically designed to augment the less-lethal capabilities of military/police.

That’s awesome! I see the internet is back on in CHAZ! I’m sure everyone is on edge though after running out of low-fat soy lattes!

Strange, none of the armed Americans who protested stay at home orders and business killing state-mandated closures destroyed…ANYTHING. Nor did they kill…ANYONE. The rioters who’ve destroyed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS if not MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in public and private property are in absolutely no way exercising the 1st Amendment. Was it within their Constitutional rights to murder police officers, business owners, and bystanders? Is it within their Constitutional rights to take over 6 square blocks in an American city for their own little Animal Farm/Dark Knight Rises fuckfest where they threaten and extort anyone who doesn’t think like them? How about preventing police from responding to calls for service from crime victims in their little pig pen? NO! What they’ve committed is an act of ARMED INSURRECTION in order to terrorize American citizens! Which is absolutely illegal, unconstitutional, and deserving of physical force or lethal force if hostile intent/hostile act is shown putting it down. Whatever connection you have to this site( especially if it was from the military) obviously you don’t deserve to say jack shit here since you side with the pieces of shit tearing this country apart. Go stand in the corner and let the adults handle adult things.

What’s really interesting is that the anarchists’ first reaction to being challenged is to call the cops! Seen so many videos of people being attacked and when they fight back; all the bystanders start screaming for the police.

Because protesters and rioters can afford restricted lasers unlike the majority of gun owners? I mean, I personally don’t give a shit if SPD uses full powered LAMs on them…play stupid games win stupid prizes and all. But to insinuate that America’s selection of attention needing hippies, wookies and mentally disenfranchised are legitimately permanently blinding LE with cat toys…is a stretch. Kudos to BE for the goggles which will deter the distraction of people lazing LE. Shit, the majority of gun owners who do use NODs and shoot at night can’t afford a restricted LAM let alone some Trustafarian, unwashed, dreadheaded wookies living off their dead parents money that mostly went to cocaine and pot dispensaries.

    • I haven’t jumped in the latest protests myself, but there has been some footage of lasers being used on police that is clearly above cat fun time grade. Whether eye safe or not this time, getting relatively cheap lasers that can do damage is definitely a threat. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=laser+review
Also keep in mind all those stories of people hassling aircraft with lasers for no good reason. https://www.cnn.com/2014/02/12/us/pilots-laser-attacks/index.html

    • Brandon says:

They aren’t using “cat toy” lasers…. google high powered chinese lasers. Cheap, easily obtained, and absolutely capable of permanent eye damage. Hopefully learning has occurred.

      • Joe says:

Even airsofters know that cheap poorly built Green lasers on eBay, made in China, far exceed the FDA safety requirements regardless of what the faked power label says, that’s why they’re banned at many fields.

That’s not even counting the five watt flashlight lasers that can burn paper. There’s YouTube videos on how you can build those for thirty bucks and 10 minutes using an old Blu-ray player and a maglite

Cool tech. Hope they can roll out enough in time for the post-election riots that the current scuffles are a rehearsal for.
