SIG SAUER - Never Settle

RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd – FOOTPRINT

FOOTPRINT from RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd is a navigation system for dismounted soldiers operating in GPS-denied environments.

The system fuses data from multiple sensors like the one seen mounted to Soldier’s leg above to analyze movements, estimate errors, and provide a highly accurate, and continuous RT self-positioning.

    It’s called a “map.”

Ya, cause calling out locational references and counting paces to determine your position in the middle of a gun battle is super efficient. If satellites go down GPS bois wont work for your blueforce tracker stuffz so gotta do stuff like this. Who knows how accurate it is, but id reckon it’d at least tell the team members which building their bros were in. Also lets go IDF!

Real life isn’t call of duty where people randomly wander around. the leader of an element knows exactly where he and his men are at all times and ensures there are no breaks in contact. There is a reason why all the selections and assessments for elite organizations are land navigation heavy. Sand tables, rehearsals, beating the scheme of maneuver into people’s brains and all that mundane stuff is how dudes know where they are when gps goes out.

        • Bob Roberts says:

Ahhhh, you’re right. Nothing ever goes wrong in a mission, teams always have knowledge of their bros’ locations via comms and or sight line, and sand models are a perfect representation of what the area of operations looks like on the ground. Oh, and that long range land navigation is a perfect training substitute for MOUT in the densely urban terrain that the IDF expects to fight in. Got ya. Now that sarcasm is out of the way…. I agree with you: technology is by no means a replacement for mission rehearsal, planning, and area familiarization; however, it is certainly an effective redundancy in this case. And beyond that, RAFAEL’s system provides a secondary source of positional data so that team members equipped with smart devices (tablets, chest-mounted phone, smart watches (garmin tactix), heads up displays (displayed at SOFIC)) can rapidly *and visually* identify where their team is. Its called an overmatch for a reason.
