DEPLOYMENT
The APC9K is expected to be issued to, and employed by, Personal Security Details (PSD) personnel tasked with protecting senior United States Army leaders, and other principles traveling to less secure areas. An operational need was identified for a highly concealable sub compact weapon system capable of engaging threat personnel with a high volume of lethal and accurate fire at close ranges, with minimal collateral damage — a compact submachine gun fills this niche. The APC9K was procured to fill this capability gap in lethality and concealability; essentially bridging the gap between pistol and rifle.
The APC9K accomplishes this, in spades. At less than 15-inches in length, the AP9K is an incredibly concealable platform optimized for low visibility carriage and discreet deployment; use in and around vehicles, and within confined spaces — all while delivering unsurpassed accuracy, controllability and ergonomics.

Why would Big Army want a 9mm PDW for PSD when 5.7mm and 4.6mm have been around for years and can defeat soft armor? Seem’s like to many steps back IMHO. 🙂

Interoperability.
Take it from the secret service, when they have an unrestricted choice of PDW and are not limited by what ammo of the army has in its inventory, they go with the P90.
The only reason why the army went with what they did is because they only know 9 mm. Everyone else has moved on something else.

If the army wanted a modern PDW they could of went with 5.7, 4.6 or 300BLK. It’s not like they are outfitting a whole division. Just because 9mm is use, in each branch doesn’t mean “that is the standard!” It’s this institutional thinking that always has our armed forces fighting yesteryears wars with the stuff they needed then, but are now using. It’s a slap in the face to logic and common sense. My Buck’ O Five!
The USSS uses SR30s (300BLK) in lieue of MP5s.

There are plenty of 9mm rounds around now that can defeat 3a(honestly have been since the 70’s ) , and 9mm is readily available at about 1/5th the cost for training ammo.5.7 and 4.6 are interesting rounds ,but at this stage the main advantages they have are very low recoil, light weight, and flat trajectories. They were flatly designed for specifications that ignored things like intermediate barriers. That’s not to say 9mm is perfect-it weighs as much as 5.56 and arcs like a thrown football, but it’s been around over 100years and is a lot more developed thanks to popularity. Weapon size plays a role here too, loose a lot out of a 5.7 as you drop below 8″ barrel length (3-400fps from 8″ to 5″with most loads). There’s room to improve PDW cartridges , especially for the shorter barrels, it’s not a completely dead concept. 7.5FK, 9×25 Dillon, maybe something else based on 10mm/30remington… Say a 8x23mm would probably shock the heck out of people.
Price?
I have the APC9 pro Glock mag compatible weapons platform and I paid around $2,250.00. It is an awesome 9mm SMG. I put a few upgrades into it; magpul k+ grip, and the ELF AR9 trigger (works with the pro lower no problems), HBI safety delete/reduced safety springs, and then I shaved down the safety selector a bit (its plastic).
If only I had un allocated free space on my CC… Would be great fun to have! God bless the US that I can even think about owning such a gun!
