Admin Message Regarding Comments on SSD

We are no longer approving new commenters. If you don’t already have an approved account, you won’t be getting one anytime soon.

This is a news website and we publish items we consider newsworthy. Some are press releases, others are written by a handful of others. It is apparently quite difficult for many of you to comprehend that an article on SSD is not an endorsement by our editorial staff. It’s just news folks. Furthermore, articles published on the site are not paid for. Alternatively, we have some great advertisers, who offer fantastic products and services. You should support them.

As far as current comments go; we don’t care if you can’t afford it, shipping is too high, it’s made in the wrong country, the flat bill bill your ass look fat, they donated to the wrong party, said something that hurt your poor little feelings, or the person who owns the company has the wrong skin color to suit you.

The past few weeks have been eye-opening. It’s quite sobering as conservatives to find that those who claim to be on the same side as you promote political violence and a desire to deny civil liberties to others.

We will not provide a platform for those who wish to anonymously further divide our society, cast aspersions on others, or promote hate.

Consequently, we are considering closing the comments section of our posts completely. Until then, keep it civil and pretend the person you are responding to is sitting across the table. And, don’t make accusations about someone else if you aren’t going to share your true name and location with the class.

Hell ya brother, about time.. just grateful for the work you do!

  2. Chuck says:

    Amen. Full support on this.

  3. SGT Rock says:

This site has been one of my daily reads for years. I can’t count the number of times I’ve bought gear b/c of other readers experiences or recommendations. Most of the historical articles are invaluable and offer personal insights/knowledge.

While some of the comments are laughable, as of recent they have become deplorable, esp the ones that contain racist/political vitriol or personal attacks. I hope that people can come to their senses, otherwise they’ll have to face the consequences. This is a private site and ultimately Eric calls the shots. Thanks again for making SSD a great site.

  4. Ton E says:

If you get comments you dont like ban em your site your rules including the racist ones. I don’t know you at all Eric and I dont even see eye to eye with you some of the time but comments you disagree with is a fact of life the racist ones too and I dont even obsess over race and this is coming from a black dude. Do your thing. But disagreement is good personal attacks is unacceptable and should be banned on the spot.

  5. MM says:

Understand why you’re doing what you have to, Eric. Keep up the good work, brother.

  6. J Smith says:

Hilarious – good on you SSD!

  7. Lasse says:

I’m probably at least semi-guilty of egging on a few select individuals, which I can only say I’m sorry for. SSD is too important of a resource for it to drown in shitposting and other way-off-topic-comments.

  8. jk pendleton says:

i am sorry to hear this. i have often gotten as much from the comments as from the stories themselves. for example, whenevery terry baldwin writes an article the comments and his thoughtful and thoughtout replies are great.

  9. Chris says:

I sincerely apologize; some of my comments where over the top.

This is the one site (literally) that I can find that is always pure, undiluted facts. I can’t thank all of you enough for doing such an incredible job, day after day. I will no longer comment, unless the person I visualize in front of me is okay with what I’m saying.

  10. TV-PressPass says:

I’m imagining some kind of flair for us old time users with the Keep-Calm-&-Return-Fire patches.

Worth noting that the key first half of that instruction is: Keep. Calm.

  11. Giovani Urrutia says:

    Great to read.

I’ve long associated SSD with professionalism. Grandstanding, sensationalism, and demagoguery never really had a place here.

  12. George says:

Good idea, the world is being more and more divided due to being able to hide behind a screen name and device. Technology was supposed to make it easier and unite, instead its dividing.

I just come to the comments section to see what Horshack and his Team Leader are doing. Hope they’re still stacking in the halls and hitting the doors HARD.
