How to Use a Magazine Gauge

The US Army Reserve Competitive Marksmanship Program shows us how to use a gauge to check if a 30 round magazine is within specifications. Soldiers are no longer allowed an alibi during qualification, so make sure your magazine is good to go using the Wear Check Tool, NSN 5120-01-574-0036.

It’s also available from Brownells.

Use a PMAG and you just solved this problem. USGI mags are hot garbage.

Most professionals are using USGI mags, by choice.

Seamus, try Okay surefeed mags. One of the original manufacturers from the early 70’s. They are fantastic. Some can’t run Pmags due to pouch dimensions, availability, etc.. I use surefeed, HK and Lancer, all equal to or better than Pmags IMHO.

Aluminum mags are lighter and less bulky… So better in the SWAP considerations usually focused on.

They insert and extract, in pouches and weapons, easier than polymer mags.

    no Pee-mags for me
