Unveiled today at SHOT is a new grenade pouch from Shaw Concepts. As yet unnamed, I am calling it the Lethal Universal Grenade Carrier or LUG-C.
In addition to accepting the M67, there’s a slit at the top to accommodate Russian-style grenades.
Additionally, using an insert, the pouch accepts two 40mm rounds.
The jury is still out on the use of snaps for the fastener. There are pros and cons to using other closures. Shaw would love to hear feedback on other preferences.
Snaps are great for a lot of environments, but a maritime or littoral combat zone will murder those things after a few months in the field. I was in an amphibious assault unit in the Corps in the 1990s. We had a lot of old gear that had metal snaps like ALICE packs. The snaps would turn green and fuzzy with corrosion in a week of tropical salt environment. Consequently, we’d scrub them with small wire brushes degrading the fabric around the snap and then soaking the whole thing with CLP or gear oil to prevent further corrosion, all to keep the Gunny off our asses.
I like the tactile security of snaps but I hate their short operational lifespan especially around mechanized operations where they get the hell bashed out of them and they get bent or crushed to the point they stop working.
