Haley Strategic – MP2 Magazine Pouch Insert

bg_final

The HSP MP2 is an injection molded insert which adds retention capability to any open top nylon pockets, foregoing the need for bungie cord or a top flap.

MP2

The click-in design allows users to insert magazines bullets front or bullets back, which allows for a smooth draw without impacting the ability to quickly retain partial magazines, in the case of a tactical reload. The MP2 is compatible with magazines of various calibers, including 5.56, 7.62x39mm, 5.45, and .308. Additionally, the MP2 allows for users to store 5.56 magazines in .308-sized pockets.

The MP2 was build specifically for the D3CR and D3CR-H, however it will also work with nylon magazine carriers from a variety of manufacturers, including Mayflower Research & Consulting, Velocity Systems, LBT, FirstSpear, and more. Designed and manufactured in the USA, MP2 inserts are available now, exclusively in Disruptive Grey.

While I applaud the addition of this kind of product to their line (I absolutely hate bungee retention for anything meant to be used for a “speed” reload), this is essentially an injection-molded version of the Esstac KYWI at almost twice the price.

Have you ever looked inside an Eagle FB pouch?

      • Alex says:

If Fort Bragg pouches were a religion, I am their evangelist and the FirstSpear pockets are their second coming.

    • 404953C says:

Alex, we built these in response to our customer issues with other magazine pouch inserts.

For one, students were having to hand modify other solutions to fit our chest rigs and even then, we witnessed inserts come out with the magazines in our classes when students went for a fresh source. Thus we added the forks on each pouch to also help secure the inserts into our rigs.

Finally, as you mentioned, these are injection molded and as such, our experience has shown that injection molded products, when produced correctly by companies like G-Code, seem to have greater longevity over other plastic solutions.

      YMMMV 🙂

Yeah, I’ve got a KYWI triple mag pouch. I used to stock my mags on them and I found out that the plastic insert tend to bend over time. They are still usable, but I’m not sure that it’ll hold the same way in high heat.

I’d love to give Stu more business but he gets hard to find. Not flakey, just hard to find. I own one of almost everything he’s ever built, purchased direct until ordering from him tough when he had a medical issue, then through dealers like SKD.

Not sure who the first person to bend thermoplast for mag retention was and you’re right, KWYIs are the joint. If the inserts could be had (for retrofit to all the shingles I’ve acquired over the years), I’d buy ’em from Stu first. Hell, if Stu puts ’em out in FDE I’ll buy ’em from Stu LAST.

Far as price, I’m a fan of slick, beautifully executed marketing, so long as the actual product fulfills the claims (and make GREAT fodder for Dynamic Pie Concepts videos). It’s why I pay the Apple Tax, the Magpul Tax and the HSP Tax.

  2. Pierre says:

No mention of compatibility with spec ops tech hellcats? One of the originators of the shingle

    • Jon, OPT says:

Also the patent holder for the shingle.

      • Pierre says:

Did not know that! I’ve owned one of their original chest rigs for a long time now. I think about 10 years. Disappointed they didn’t make the list since they have been in business longer than most of these companies!

    • james says:

I’ll second the interest, I’ve got one of the MACHS version hanging in the closet that might get some love if I can ditch the velcro retention.

  3. Chris K. says:

Got to see these up close, pretty slick and good retention.

  4. Jason l says:

Sounds like a poor mans taco pouch

    • Darrel says:

Except tacos are overbuilt crap for people who are too lazy to invest in other solutions that are far superior.

Love the blatant name dropping in that last picture. Just further proving that HSP panders to idiots and have no business in the tactical nylon industry. They make plenty of good products and travis is a cool guy, but their nylon is so gimmicky that it makes me laugh.

Anyone miss the days back in like 2005 when products were actually being made for your average servicemember and not wannabe operator civilians?

      • chris says:

there are still plenty of products for your average servicemember, even more now because the market keeps growing due to increased demand from the mil and civ communities combined.

The more competition and variety of ideas/options exist the better off we all are.

  5. Matt says:

The original FSBE kit that the USMC issued had a shingle in it before SOTECH and it also came with 1911 pouches that had plastic inserts with them for mag retention pretty much before anyone else. Late 1990’s. Early gen MOLLE

    • My patent is on a chest harness or vest with internal magazine slots. I haven’t had anyone challenge that. We don’t lay claim to a separate pouch. Best to look up our patent and read the claims.

  6. Joe says:

Would like to see a product description, installation and use video from someone. I understand that the fork helps hook into MOLLE, just not certain how this product stays in place in a shingle mag pouch or chest rig that does not have MOLLE inside or above it.

    • Chucker says:

I’d like to see that as well. I don’t have a good understanding of the potential compatiblity with other pouches.

  7. TexAg14 says:

Any confirmation they work in the G.I. TAP?

  8. mike says:

I’m into it. It’d be nice to get rid of bungees, or even be able to disengage them without fear of losing mags. I don’t get why another option is a bad thing. A lot of companies make bungee-top pouches, the list addresses a few, so why can’t a lot of companies have inserts? Many of the listed companies, in fact, have some sort of rigid plastic retention regardless of specific material or shaping process.
Cool on Haley Strategic: they saw third-party retention devices not working so they made their own. I hope they sell a bajillion. I’ll certainly grab a handful for my D3CR.
