From South Africa comes the iKUNZI PAW 20. The semiauto Personal Area Weapon fires 20mm x 42B ammunition from a Four round box magazine at a range out to 1000m. It’s no lightweight, coming in at 6.8kg.
The pistol grip and trigger mechanism are interestingly offset to the shooter’s right.
As you can see, it features a Picatinny rail and is used in conjunction with a red dot sight. Currently, there are practice, HEI and SAPHEI rounds. The latter have direct action fuzes with muzzle and range safety features, filled with Hexal P30 for blast and incendiary effects during detonation.
Looks like a prototype to the XM29 prototype. It seems the concept is similar.

The PAW is an extremely effective and simple system to use … more so than many of the fancy fandangled contemporary systems out there.
The only thing this suffers from is the “not invented here syndrome”!
Its not heavier than an empty M249 but it sure adds a lot of firepower to a squad. Might want to change optics to reach out to a 1000m though.

This was used in “Chappie” to take out the unmanned big walking mech. I was wondering what it was.
Also used in the film “District 9” from the same director who grew up in South Africa.

SSD, I would have to strongly disagree. Considering the fact that a holographic sight’s reticle size does not get larger under magnification like all red dots, I would say it is hardly a gimmick. While I am sure you are much better shot than I am, I don’t know many who would choose to lose precision under magnification. A 2 MOA “red dot” reticle combined with a 3 power magnifier becomes 6 MOA. Holography does not work like this. Your 1 MOA aiming point on your EOTech stays 1 MOA regardless of magnification power. That is a significant precision advantage downrange.
That red dot on your holosight won’t do you much good when it cuts out on you.

Not really, because a customer will most likely put a different sight on the thing than the one there. The manufacturer intends for it to be used with a red dot-style sight and regardless of your affinity for exact nomenclature, and much to the chagrin of the L3 Warrior marketing team, the sight shown is commonly thrown into the RDS category of sights.
In the end, your “debate” has nothing to do with the weapon. If you’d like to wrote a story about your devotion to the EO Tech I would be more than happy to host it. That particular sight seems to evoke similar responses to weapon lube from the peanut gallery.

It is commonly thrown in the category of RDS sights by those that are uniformed of the differences. I never attempted to argue the pro’s and con’s of each technology. I simply stated one major difference that separates the the two technologies, that you may or may not have known. I find it hard to believe that anyone who was aware of the difference in the two technologies, especially through magnification, would argue that holo vs RDS was a marketing gimmick. Just as I suspect RDS manufactures would like their technology separated from holography due to the large differences in battery life.
You are the one debating RDS vs Holographic from a preference standpoint, I am not. I am simply pointing out the technologies are not the same. Even your favorite RDS manufacture would likely agree with that statement.

How it happened that neopup paw-20 with 6 round drum magazine (+1 in the chamber) turned into inkunzi paw-20 with 4 round box magazine which proved inferior to the drum magazine for the weapon as numerous tests showed before (HP noticeably improved with the drum magazine).
