The G28E is H&K’s entry into the US Army’s Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) program. Notice the Handguard still has the HK-style attachment system that looks like reverse KeyMod.
The trigger is kind of interesting, but even more so once you get inside.
Check out the double springs in the trigger.
Word on the street is that this gun was downselected along with two others for the final phase of the program.

this….. over travel prevention…. not too terribly revolutionary…. allowing for/aiding with the trigger getting back forward for subsequent shots.
Yep… The SG55_ series of rifles/carbines has had this for a while.
Prevent over-travel. As in what, prevent accidental damage to the trigger mechanism.

Overtravel…you’re pressing the trigger to the rear, the shot breaks, and the trigger continues to move to the rear. The idea is that the shot breaks and the trigger stops moving.
I wonder who the other two down selects were? KAC and who else?

I think they did, if so they will be tough to beat as they have so far bested HK in 2 separate .308 trials in the eurozone.
