I have ordered several pairs of the gen 1 gloves. I had several issues with the leather splitting and holes being formed at the tip of the thumbs. While they were a great form-fitting glove and very thin, I had issues with durability. Several members at my unit liked the gloves but they just didn’t last 2 weeks of training on on the Range. I truly hope Velocity Systems has addressed these issues. If they have I have no problem ordering more for my unit.
As soon as I read this story I wanted to make a similar comment to what Nate wrote. Great gloves, they just didn’t hold up. I did talk to some Velocity Systems employees at a trade show last year and they said those issue would be addressed in the new glove.
That’s the problem with these lightweight, contact type of glove; they just don’t last very long.
The originals lasted a couple days on a pre-deployment workup. All I used them for was shooting and carrying Mk18/G19. Truly regretted not just buying more SKD PIGs.
I’ve been on the search for some lightweight gloves after SWMS sold to Camelback who promptly dropped the vent glove. I’m gonna give these a try.
I’ve been in the same boat for a few years now. The old Camelbak Vent gloves were the all-around best mix of dexterity and durability. I abused mine for years shooting, cycling, scrambling before the seams started to split in the fingertips. I’ve had good luck with the Outdoor Research Aerator gloves, but I have some concerns about durability as they are really friggin’ thin! So far no rips though.
How do these compare to the Pig Alpha gloves?
I own a few of each. The Velocity gloves are great gloves but an hour on the range and they are looking like a weeks worth of shooting just took place. Great dexterity and so far no rips or tears but sweaty hands make getting on qnd off a pain, almost like they’re gonna rip.
The PIGS are all around awesome, not quite the dexterity of the Velocity gloves but far more durable. Now the first gen PIGS wore out pretty quick also but they fixed that with new releases.
I hope Velocity gloves have made these more durable and hopefully kept the dexterity.
Awesome, thanks! I’ve already got a couple pairs of PIGs, but I’m always looking to improve my gear, even something as small as gloves.
I would love to find a set of shooting gloves that works but it seems that every pair I’ve tried features a seam on the sides of the fingers. While that makes sense for comfort, it also means that there is a little fin of material on the edge of my trigger finger, which always gets caught between the trigger and trigger guard on reset.
