Mod Zero Defense – M-Zero Zeroable Picatinny Rail

wp5lwlfsdikdp372ix5c

Mod Zero Defense is a Pennsylvania-based company which has created the M-Zero Picatinny Rail. The M-Zero is designed to allow shooters to use a pre-zeroed optic across multiple firearms by adjusting zero on the mount itself, rather than readjust the optic for every new rifle. The below image works as a great visual indicator of the M-Zero’s function.

As for the technical details, here’s the bullet point list:

  • 1/4 MOA elevation adjustment
  • 1/2 MOA windage adjustment
  • 240 MOA elevation range of motion
  • 100 MOA windage range of motion
  • Height: 0.6 in
  • Weight: 0.45 lbs
  • Length: 7.08 in
  • User customizable range dial
  • Two dials for zeros (barrels and ammo)
  • Fits any MilSpec rail with 8 slots
  • 12 rail slots
  • The M-Zero will soon be up for funding on Kickstarter. Check out the link below for more details, and to subscribe to Mod Zero Defense’s email list.

I have a hard time believing that zeroing the optic to a removable picatinny rail will allow the mount to be swapped out at will across weapons without re-zeroing on each. Even the best quick detach mounts (larue, spuhr, adm, etc) require you to remount back to the exact same location on the rail on the very same rifle to retain any acceptable return to zero capability.

I would be interested to see some repeatability testing across rail systems of different manufacturers.

      • Benb says:

Not sure if you knew this, but the rail would stay on the gun. Only the optic would be removed.

        • Ed says:

And u will need 2 or 3 ps of this rail if you have 2 or 3 rifles… one each rife using slot in scope for the three rifle…

        • Mod Zero says:

          Hi Jackson,

Benb responded correctly. our mount stays fixed to a singular weapon. It is used to create a common zero between your weapons.

Taking a scope on/off a weapon using QD mounts may slightly change the zero. In our experience, this has been solely due to user error with the few products we have tried: ADM, BOBRO and KDG. When used properly we have seen no noticeable change in the zero. It’s ultimately the shooters decision to decide what they feel comfortable with, but most practical shooters we’ve spoken with have no problem with QD mounts and prefer them.

Does the first point answer your testing interest? Another minor perk (for the gun nerds like us) is that we don’t have to adjust the tension of our ADM mounts when swapping since our rail is toleranced for that purpose. Typically we have to do it each time when going between manufacturers, but we provide a constant.

      Hello chin weld…

      • Benb says:

This is a cool concept. If they could incorporate an adjustable rail into a custom AR15 upper that would solve the height over-bore issue.

        • Mod Zero says:

          Thanks Benb!

We definitely have that in the works. We are launching our product as a reverse-compatible option initially to prove the interest. The more success this product has the faster we can offer our integrated upper.

      • Mod Zero says:

        Hi GSC,

Our mount adds exactly 0.6″ in height to the rail. In text, that sounds like a lot, but when on the gun, most shooters have no problem comfortably maintaining a cheek weld and proper sight picture.

For shooters of smaller stature or a strong preference to keeping their current cheek weld, many stocks have cheek riser options and there are several lower sitting scope mounts that will allow you to maintain standard optical axis heights (depends on optic used)

Please let us know if you have any other questions: team@modzerodefense.com

We’ve shot it next to a chin-weld AK platform and it is definitely still a cheek weld.

    3. SVGC says:

Hmmm. I can see some ancillary uses for this besides weapons mounts. Specifically co-align mounting handheld Laser Range Finders to spotting scopes that have cages or built in rails. I could see something like this finding a home in that realm.

      • P.J. says:

Looks like it would be easier to adjust than a lot of aiming lasers as well. There might be a market there for an M-LOK/Keymod version.

        • Mod Zero says:

          Hey SVGC and P.J.

We’ve had some interest with LRF and laser devices as well. We do not have much experience with these applications yet and are still feeling out the market.

If you have any suggestions or deeper thoughts regarding its use as this, please send us an email at team@modzerodefense.com

The more interest we hear, the more likely it will happen. Thanks!

      Someone’s seen an elcan scope.

      • Alex says:

My thoughts as well although the Elcan’s do have wind and elevation lockouts for when adjustments are completed.

However even then people still complain about loss of zero.

    6. Great idea. It’s about time someone got around to doing this. I’ll take six right now! As you said it’s does away with one of the biggest headaches that have to put up with not just me but everyone. Waiting with great anticipation for you’re going live.
      Respectfully,

    7. Matt says:

Very interesting product. It’s just my humble opinion, but I would recommend you market this heavy for long range / big bore shooters who need huge elevation adjustments to get there scopes on target. At least for me that would be my interest vs swapping scopes.
