Kit Badger puts in his two cents regarding the gun debate with his latest, “The Gun Debate and How I Won the Internet”.

With a title like that, this had better be good! Take it away Ivan.

Anyone who waves the confederate flag and ignores that fact that it stands for murder and oppression of people of color for centuries is ignorant. It does in fact mean different things to different people but being ignorant of this fundamental context is asinine.

Sucks to be Native American on July 4th then.

    • JM Gavin says:

I usually like reading the comments on SSD, as most folks leave comments which add to the discussion. Usually, but not always.

    • Ed says:

Unless you are being 100% sarcastic, you are a Phucking idiot “cat blaster” and your handle sounds like you have one of the criteria for being a serial killer.

However deplorable those people might be (to you), thankfully we live in nation, that for the time being, he can do such a thing without getting a trip to the pokey.

I grew up still fighting the Civil War, but for the winning side.
Also got a copy of Leave My Heart at Wounded Knee from my Dad.
And I loved orange Chargers with the Stars and Bars.
        The American experience is complicated.

The Confederate flag is distasteful for me. My opinion is a glorious battle flag has been smeared with the blood of little girls from a church basement or rotting remains of some kids buried in a dam. The Civil War use isn’t the issue, it is the Jim Crow/Klan/DW Griffith symbolism that angers me. That is my opinion, disregard as desired.

I appreciated Ivan’s point that you don’t have to be a jerk about disagreeing. No reason to insult anyone.

    • SpankDaddy says:

I believe that you lose the war you take the flag down. Period. There are places for it…in historical parks and museums.

But I get disgusted by the fact that people sit there today and think that the majority of the north gave two shits about the civil rights of black southern slaves. Lincoln himself did not the majority of his life. Their issue was not as much slavery, but who decides on whether or not you can have slavery expand into new states. 10th amendment vs the supremacy clause. To most northerners and southerners black americans were farm instruments.

Once we start being honest about the history of this country, maybe we can actually solve a fucking problem.

      • Ed says:

        BAM! this guy gets it!

Hey Andrew and cat blaster, read this you cowards. History, REAL history vs revisionist history that kids have indoctrinated into last 45+ years.

  5. Whit says:

Its hard to have a meaningful conversation with gun control supporters, when they call you terrorists, deplorable, rednecks, hicks, evil, etc.

Their rhetoric is based upon demonizing gun owners, and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.

    • Ed says:

This is a sad fact and turning point on what words truly mean and those that feel so high and mighty, that they can warp and con-volute/weaponize words and rhetoric to influence the dizzy idiots and some everyday Americans into believing their BS.

If those same Anti-gun/Anti 1A have their way we will become a totalitarian society of their making, which ironically will extinguish those “useful idiots” once they put their “kind” in power.

  6. Dellis says:

The flag, this confederate flag, sure lives in a bunch of peoples minds rent free.

Ya, its a aymbol of death, hate and division and I reckon just the mere sight of it brings back horrible memories to thousands of people who never lived thru that time period.

    • Ed says:

Spot on, Too many fake-feelings from the mentally weak Prog-lib babies.

    • Joe_momma says:

If the confederate flag should be taken down because people associate it with the Confederate State of America and their use of slavery, as well as that *some* people used it as a tool or expression of their own hate, then we should take down the American flag right? The same American flag that has flown since day one, when America as a whole allowed and condoned slavery, when America attacked and murdered native Americans and then forced them in to reservations just to take their land. The same America that rounded up American citizens with Japanese heritage and placed them into internment camps. The same America that allowed legal, government sponsors racism to continue for generations beyond the civil war. The Confederacy lasted for all of about 5 years. But don’t that shit was America before thet beef and was America still after that. So saying that that one flag embodies and covers everything outlined in above posts (KKK, Jim Crow laws, etc), that was all done officially under the same American flag you wave proudly or get upset about people kneeling over, because that was America, those were members of American government, states of America, etc, and not the confederacy. So if the confederate flag bothers you and shakes you deep to your core, but the American flag doesn’t, then congratulations, you’ve bought in to the propaganda big time.
