Full Job Description

SOFWERX was established under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DEFENSEWERX (DWX). SOFWERX is a platform designed and operated to increase collaboration and innovation, as well as explore, experiment, and assess promising technology for USSOCOM. Its growing eco-system includes both traditional and non-traditional problem solvers with a focus on new, novel, and provocative capabilities.

ROLE

Serve as the Director of SOFWERX in Tampa, Florida. The Director will ensure successful implementation of the PIA’s strategic objectives in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. Provide strategic advice to the DWX Executive Director, Board of Directors (BOD), Chairperson and USSOCOM senior leadership. Design, develop, and execute comprehensive business plans which facilitate the effective achievement of business goals. Implement and monitor employee performance goals and provide mentorship while promoting a safe and vigorously innovative culture. Understand the condition and status of the overall staff, budget, resources, programs, and customer feedback of the SOFWERX effort and make timely, tough decisions when necessary to ensure the efficacy of the program and brand. Report to the DWX Executive Director in Niceville, Florida. The following is a list of key tasks that the Director will oversee:

KEY TASKS

PLANNING

· Creates annual operating plans that support strategic direction set by the Corporate Headquarters and correlate with annual operating budgets; submits annual plans to the board for approval

· Collaborates with the USSOCOM customer and DWX corporate staff to define and articulate the organization’s vision and to develop strategies for achieving the customer’s vision

· Collaborate with USSOCOM partners to ensure PIA objectives are understood, and roles & responsibilities of the respective partners is clearly defined, and the PIA is adequately resourced

MANAGEMENT

· Promotes a culture that reflects the organization’s values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity

· Manages team members and governs organization according to authorized HR personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations

· Oversees the operations of the organization and manages its compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

· Develops annual budgets that support operating plans and submits budgets for approval

· Prudently manages the organizations resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations

· Ensures that staff practices all appropriate accounting procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

· Transparent with USSOCOM customer and willing to share financial information

HR MANAGEMENT

· Recruitment and contracting of company and project staff

· Employee development and training

· Employee relations

· Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting

MARKETING AND PR:

· Organize the availability of company members for media/PR events as necessary

· Oversees content, production and distribution of all marketing and publicity materials (posters, program, flyers, mail outs, brochures, etc.)

· Coordinates with USSOCOM on publicly releasable material

COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS:

· Serves as the primary spokesperson and representative for the organization

· Assures that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders

· Actively advocates for the organization, its beliefs, and its programmatic efforts

· Acts as a liaison between USSOCOM and the community, building relationships with entities enabling objectives

· Will actively support all DWX’s ecosystem and hubs with sharing information/consultation

Conditions of Work:

· Capable of accomplishing DWX and PIA objectives and be willing to share credit and own accountability

· Have a team first mentality

Requirements for the Role:

· Able to obtain a Secret Security clearance

· Bachelor’s degree

· A minimum of five years’ experience in management, prioritization, balancing competing demands and delivering on objectives with high quality

· Extensive experience speaking/presenting to small and large audiences

· Experience working with the U.S. Government and with knowledge of military acquisitions and funding cycles
