SOG Knives – BAR15T Tanto Bayonet

There just aren’t a lot of bayonets on the market so when a new one pops up, I’ve got to mention it. Meet the BAR15T Tanto Bayonet from SOG Knives.

It features a 7-inch Tanto-shaped blade made from AUS-8 steel and G10 grip. It weighs 19.2 ounces and has an overall length of 12.2 inches. Fitted with an AR-compatible barrel ring it should fit rifles with Mil-Spec muzzle devices.

However, your rifle will also need a bayonet lug which is integral to the base of a Mil-Spec rifle’s Front Sight Post but isn’t generally found on those without the sight triangle. Your rifle will also require sufficient barrel space to accommodate the length of the bayonet handle, between the ring and attachment.

If you find yourself in this situation but just have to have that bayonet, you might check out the bayonet lug from Cogburn Arsenal. I’m sure there are a few other options out there as well.

Finally, it naturally comes with a sheath.

Tantos are criminally underrated. A while back I purchased an Eickhorn-Solingen KM2000, the early model that the Bundeswehr selected as the primary issue utility knife. Built like a tank and tantos are surprisingly easy to sharpen too. I’ll have to give this a look and hopefully SOG will be at AUSA. If this is at their booth I’ll have to put it in my hand.
