The SureFire MAG5-60 in Action

SureFire fans Patriot36 produced this demonstration of the MAG5-60 with an M16A2, LWRC SBR, and FN SCAR. All-in-all, they are well built magazines; manufactured to spec. Unfortunately, the team didn’t demonstrate the compatibility of the magazines with out-of-spec receivers. As with the PMAG, this has been the only issue we have seen with the SureFire magazines. However, they do run like a sewing machine in mil-spec weapons. The problem isn’t with the magazines. They are built properly. It’s the guns that shooters try to use them with that are the issue. Normally, out-of-spec guns rifles wouldn’t be a problem but the USMC’s adoption of the M27 IAR from H&K has made this a bit of an issue, despite the Marines’ purchase of a fairly small numbers of this 416 variant.

Guys from KAC have ran the 60 rounder in a 416 without issue.

You can fit a PMAG in some 416s as well. The problem is that not all PMAGs or MAG5-60s will fit in all 416s.

Seems like HKs problem more than anyone elses.

Kinda neat to see my video mentioned here. Thanks for featuring it here on SS!

This mag runs like a champ and I was particularly interested in wringing out the 60 simply because I don’t foresee having the same interest in the 100 rounder. That is, I simply won’t have a place for it in my load out.

We continue to test this mag in the Patriot Project and are considering a Part 2 where we would put it through some field exercises which would include slamming it to the prone position while at different load capacities. Typically, the g-forces of a slammed magazine, at 1/2 capacity will often cause the rounds to bottom out and slam back out of position with a cocked follower and jacked up cartridges. We’re kind of curious if this semi-quad stacked design with additional ammo mass is any more or less prone to this failure than other conventional 30’s.

    Thanks for watching guys!
